We must all learn from this hector, stress is the biggest killer of domesticated budgerigars, at least he is okay now.
I would rest him for at least a week before pairing him up.

Hi Hector , how are your other breeding pairs doing , plenty of chicks i hope Thanks Barrie they're just starting again. (no eggs yet) We raised up 18 chicks from those two pairs earlier this year. It was our and also their first time. I'm looking forward to a bit more flawless rounds this time.

Yet, I would find very useful a tread / guide about transporting budgies. Will check the site again along with your website - perhaps I just missed it so far. Unfortunately all my spare cages were given away with the chicks from the last breading. Should I then place him into my largest cage - with 3 1/4 year old budgies?

I have seen him eating. He is also climbin' around a lot inside the cage (trying to get out . I can tell he's getting better now. Wouldn't it be another trauma for him being captured and introduced in a "new" cage? (he spent a half an hour there the day he arrived) I'm not trying to be "difficult", just want the best for the "new guy" telling you the latest news. If you confirm that I should move him, I will do.

Tried to make a closer picture from his eye(s), but my camera couldn't perform that through the cage wires...
Anyway, I think we can be sure by now that his vision is fine. (fortunately)

@mickmay Yes, he's eyes looked okay, but the way he behaved... Actually those pictures I posted showed him in a good shape - he raised his head up "for the photo". I don't know what happened, but unfortunately now again he sists the same way he sat yesterday. (see picture) He does not turns to look at the camera, he just sats this way for nearly an hour. Look at that feather on his right wing: a bird who is feeling all right wouldn't let that feather be like that. Yet, he "is there" now; I mean he responds to the movement around, but he doesn't looks okay... What you think? The hen sits on the same perch now and court.

Okay, I thought I should take some pictures from him. Beautiful bird IMO. ...but what's wrong with him? The hen on the pictures is already crazy for him. Courts for him and all. But no response... nothing. If you have a good look at this photo you can see a beautiful clear iris ring. Sounds like he had a traumatic experience and took quite some time to settle, and that is probably all. But Hector, I have to ask, what about quarantine?

A lovely bird. I think he just needs time to settle in, some budgies take longer than others. I have had budgies frozen like statues for a week and I have had budgies that are bouncing around the cage the minute I get them home. I would also like to say that quarantine is very important. Any new bird should be kept separate, in a different air space from your other birds for a minimum of 30 days. Its too late now so don't worry and don't think I am telling you off, simply advising you when you buy future budgies.

Pretty much the same as yesterday. Sometimes just sits in that not-so-normal positure as on the last picture (but he is alert); sometimes climbs the cage all over (he is quite fast and it seems like he is strong and skillful too). He is eating normally now. But strange that he didn't touched the millet spray still... maybe he don't know what it is!? How can a budgie resist millet spray? By the way the first egg has arrived in the other cage/nest! ;D
