I am a little worried about her as she doesn't walk properly and she has sore feet - probably the reason, so medication to be applied before bedtime. She is a good biter if I remember rightly - so gloves on later. Apart from the wings (no she's not missing any flight feathers and has flown across the cage) and the feet and the poor diet, I think I can get her sorted out. I hope so anyway, fingers crossed.

It's no wonder she is a bit out of sorts Shirls, poor girl. A good diet, lots of love and TLC which I know she will receive in abundance from you, and I'm sure you will see a big change in her soon.

Who is Harry skysmum? have I missed something? Tinkerbell was called Harry by her previous owners, they thought she was a boy. Do you remember you suggested I change it to Harriet and I said I couldn't possibly because that was my mil's name and I didn't get on with my mil

I had noticed something odd about Smudgies wings as well. At first I thought it was the heat but then it seemed like she was like that permanently. I wasn't sure what to make of it.
I am really sad to know that she has sore feet. I'm not surprised as she has only had plastic perches all her life. Another lesson to learn as a budgie owner - no plastic perches!!
She's a wonderful budgie and having spent all her life alone and most probably bored, she does so well with what she has. It goes to show how strong these budgies can be.
I am so grateful to Shirls for taking in Smudgie. I wish it had been sooner but at least Smudgie will get what is best for her.
The previous owner was pleased to know that he get updates on how Smudgie is doing. Again just for those who haven't read previous posts, the owner did not purchase this budgie but had been given this budgie by an uncle of his. He was just misinformed and did not have the time to look after this budgie. He was incredibly strong to give up his budgie for a better life. I had to do something similar with my guinea pigs when I was very ill and was unable to care for them. It does make you feel like you have let them down but in reality, you have given them a brighter future which is what matters. In this situation, the previous owner put his budgie first before him.
I hope in the future that if he ever does keep a budgie, he will join this forum which I told him about and will learn how to look after his budgie properly.
I look forward hearing and seeing photos of Smudgie.
Just a question Shirls, will she be taken to the vets for a check up?
She's definitely a biter, she bit my finger and hand pretty hard but luckily my Huckleberry used to bite this hard when he was in a bad mood, so I am used to it. I thought that if I could stay with her for an hour or so, she would be jumping on my hand and doing step up in no time.
It already looks like she is making excellent progress with you Shirls. I am so pleased!!

Thank you and your partner for delivering the new bird to his home safely ninz1 you're a star! If I had the money Marianne, I'd jump on a plane to rescue an animal! I couldn't sleep when I first heard about him and me being me, I was worried sick. Thank you to everyone who have been wonderful for posting and caring. Had it not been for this forum, I'd be in a right panic! I am very happy that the journey went as well as it did. It was so lovely to meet Shirls and her daughter. Fantastic people all round!! It's them that we should all be thanking. I wish I was taking Smudgie home, I was smitten. My partner Ziyad had to remind me that we are not in a good position to give a budgie a home which brought me back to reality. I hope the budgie family at Shirls home enjoy all the toys they got. I really cannot wait for more photos, especially when Smudgie meets the gang!

Poor little girl; hope the new perches and all things proper will help sort her feet out sooner rather than later. PS Nice to have a Smudge on the forum, again. xxx
