Hi Everyone My name is Pete and to introduce myself I would like to tell you a bit myself and of course Charlie my beautiful normal green male budgie. OK so up until a few years ago I had a garden aviary full of budgies, normally by September I had on average 30 budgies including the chicks, don't worry I wasn't colony breeding, I had a separate shed for breeding, sadly due to ill health I had to give up my aviary and rehome all my birds to a very good friend who has been breeding budgies for donkey's years, she couldn't accomodate my aviary so that went to a neighbours son who was wanting to start keeping birds under guidance from his Dad, I do miss my aviary massively which is partly why I've joined here, I'm hoping to be able to share your experiences, I am not an expert because we are all still learning but I think I can offer good advice to any newbies that ask for help and of course I hope to learn more as time goes on So to present day, well I have a budgie called Charlie, I bought him December 2016 and he's gorgeous, really playful, intelligent and mischevious, he spends most of his day either playing with his toys or spending time with me, the first 2 photos are of him on the day I bought him (from a breeder), I was introducing him to veggies, The second photo is more recent, as you can see he's going through his first moult but it hasn't affected his personality. Thanks for reading my first post, any comments are very much appreciated. Pete

Welcome to the forum @impeckably. Charlie looks so cute and we look forward to hearing about his antics.
I live in Berkshire and have two male budgies. Squawk is just over two and Chirpy is a fairly new addition. I got him about three months ago and he's a year or so old. I also have two lovely dogs aged twelve and eight.
The advice and knowledge on this forum has been invaluable and all are a good bunch.

Hey up and welcome Pete. Donny is not too far from us Yorkshire Lads. Shame you had to give up your aviary pastime, things tend to catch up when we start getting older. That looks a,little beauty you have on your finger. Don't you find the normal greens and blues are a little moe endearing. The big ones are great and friendly but never seem to get in the playful mood. I won't breathe a word to aanybody that you used to run your own forum, your secret is safe with me. Enjoy ya sen with us, we''re a friendly bunch on 'ere. Even the Aussies have a good chat now and then. P.S. If you never make a mistake then you will never learn anything.

It's good to meet a fellow Yorkshireman, many thanks for the warm welcome, hey you mentioned Aussies, I learnt alot from an Aussie called Corie Gallagher, he was a very well respected breeder, stunning birds and if he thought you were doing something wrong he told you, explained why and gave great advice, he's the guy that started me on the joys of keeping budgies correctly, as you know anyone can put a nesting box on a cage, but to breed responsibly takes preparation and love, have a great weekend !

Unless I'm mistaken I think we used to have a member called Corrie, or something to that effect. We have members all over the place but mainly in the UK. We do have a couple of members in New Zealand, you may have seen a post or two from nev90. He knows his stuff. We do get quite often people that think one just needs to stick a pair in a box and produce budgies. They don't realise anything about these wondrous creatures.

Corie was a member of this forum for a long time Pete, he always seemed willing to give good advice. Then all of a sudden he slipped off the radar.

Don't know if you'll be successful. I think he deleted his membership.

Don't know if you'll be successful. I think he deleted his membership. You're right jellybean, he did the same thing on another budgie site about 6 years ago, he was the administrator on that one, things change but I really hope he is well and still breeding, I had alot of respect for Corie.

Hi, and welcome, Pete and Charlie. Must have been hard giving up the aviary; at least you knew the birds went to a good home. That's important.

Hi, and welcome, Pete and Charlie. Must have been hard giving up the aviary; at least you knew the birds went to a good home. That's important. Thank you for the warm welcome Hezz, yes it was a tough decision to make and some people may judge me for my decision, but after the accident I soon realised that I simply couldn't give my birds 100% care and attention, they went together to a breeder friend I have, she does alot of work with the church and practically every weekend she has children coming round to help with her massive flock, hopefully some of the kids will be inspired to take up the hobby, yes I would love another aviary and it's not out of the question as my health has improved slightly but it may be a few years yet
