Moogie, if anyone (that should be when, not if) come along later with training questions, starting from scratch, I am going to direct them to this thread. There are a number of things you have brought up, which new budgie owners often do. I think it can be of great help for others. Do you agree? sorry Hezz, only just got to read this..YES totally agree think it would be a big help

Hi Moogie, I am just a little worried by the staining above the cere in Elfie's latest photos. It can be a sign of respiratory aggravation - either an illness or vapours etc causing the problem. Has he been sneezing more that normal? Tail bobbing? Some say that Vita A deficiency can cause it too, but there are others who unequivocally deny this to be the case.
Just to be sure, maybe add your photos into the health section with a question for the more experienced bird people amongst us. I would hate for him to end up with a full-on illness when the evidence was there right in front of our faces.

It could be vit A deficiency or...
Feather Stains above the Nostrils Staining of the feathers above the nostrils is an indication of an established sinus infection, the cause of which is most commonly a stress induced Streptococcus or dust related Staphylococcus infection. Sneezing is often associated with this symptom. This is a common problem in cockatiels, budgerigars and eclectus parrots and requires immediate veterinary attention.

Thanks for pointing me to this thread Hezz and thanks for the thread and the updates Moogie and others, hopefully it will help me with My little bird, who seems to have lost confidence in me as I had to take him to the vets, shame as it was going so well, but this has motivated me now :-D

Hi midas I havent been on here for a few days so not sure whats been going on with you and your little bird but i had to catch and take elf to the vets 3 times and give him meds orally and it did knock his confidence in me...He is fine once i get him out the cage and all his trust is with me but still a bit weary when i do step up in the cage to bring him out,he moves away to the other end of his perch but after a few tries(and with millet0 he finally steps up and stays (not every time as only yesturday he didnt want to know ha ha ) but im sure in time he will let the past memorys of me having to catch him go!!...i just have to keep going and be patient....x

Nice one, Moogie. Tina had had a problem with all her hard work falling by the wayside with a vet visit, to be certain there was nothing serious going on. That is why I put her onto your thread. Sometimes it is just enough to know that others have gone, or are going through the same thing.
My budgies have taught me more patience than any person, child or pet before. And I am a better person because of them.

I think Sky is "Talking" to me again now. I spent time outside his/her (not sure what he/she is, blue cere, white rings round nostrils) cage, talking, blinking and winking at her (this works). I let her out and she walked across his/her cage to me while I held millet, so maybe he/she is trusting me a bit again? :-) My partner now thinks the cheese has slid off my cracker now though, what with The blinking, head tilting, singing and winking....ha ha

Get him involved, Tina, and he won't be able to help himself! Next it will be him whispering sweet little birdie noises outside the cage. ;D
