Anything shiny is his; anything I am eating is his; every minute of my time should be his, according to him, and he can be noisy if he wants attention. He seems to be happiest simply sitting on someone's shoulder. He has a contented sound that sounds like a frog croaking. .... and a very loud beak grind!

Oh please, people ..... it takes me ages to get going on youtube ..... is there an easier way? I don't think so. I had Loki out for a bath this morning - he has been bathing in his drinking water - and trying to get him to hop into the pie dish. Anyway, we got there this morning, although it might take a few times before he gets the whole dip the wings and have a good flap idea. Brought him back to his cage, because, although not in the job description, I do have things I do need to do ...... and here was Sparky parked up, front and centre in Loki's cage, chortling his little heart out!! So I put Loki on the floor to climb his rope up to the door while I gently removed Sparky and had to explain why staying there might not be such a good idea!!!

Someone had to make the first move, why not Sparky I say? The updates on Loki make really good reading Hezz, looking forward to him being able to fly. I bet he is really enjoying your company right now. I hope you aren't neglecting the rest of your flock!!! (I know you wouldn't really!!).

Shirls, I think the rest of the flock are giving me the cold shoulder. Except for Sparky seeing a new, larger and, at the time empty, cage to be explored, the budgies are carrying on as though he doesn't exist. It is easy for them to do, with Loki not flying; he ducks when they go zooming over our heads; if I put him onto the play gym when someone else is sitting there, they simply fly off, usually to go and sit on Mango's cage.

Just trying to catch up on all the news. How exciting Hezz! Loki is gorgeous. How big will he get and how fast? When he dies moult those big red feathers they'll be such a contrast to any budgie feather. Looking forward to more photos and said video!

He is as big as he will get, JennyB, and as for flight, I have no idea!! Everyone wants to trim their wings, poor birds (maybe there is a reason for that, but I just think it is the lazy-man's way of dealing with the birds. I may, of course, have to change my mind when he does get mobile! I also can't wait for him to have the lovely blue of the flight feathers. He really will be a rainbow bird, then.

They will take ages to drop out, those clipped feathers, but unless something really strange happens, those feathers will not be clipped again! I am going to look into training him to harness so he can come out onto the deck with us in summer - we spend most of our time out there when it is so hot, but I know that is going to be a challenge. I don't have one yet; have been using the dog's halti as an intro. A very funny sight yesterday (missed with the camera by seconds) .... I saw one of the budgies heading into the kitchen, but down low (Loki's cage is there when he is out with either of us) so wondered if someone might have been on the floor, and went to check ....... found the three (budgie) boys exploring Loki's cage, drinking his water, eating his seed, picking at his veggies and generally having a really good sticky beak. Just like us all having a peek through SQ's house!!! Loki was on my shoulder, and while I was standing there laughing at the boys, he was trying very hard to get to his cage. I came back to get the camera and they all flew out.

Sorry; no can do; OH has the camera. ..... I do think there was a small amount of guilt in the acquisition. OH was in the process of going away for the week, purchasing a new ute and seeing the boys while he was away .... and .... this is the real bonus for him ... he is presently on the road on a relatively new bike, doing a big road trip for the next month, covering about 6-7,000kms (somewhere around 4,000 miles). So I am "left" at home, enjoying the peace and tranquility. Loki is not all beer and skittles - he has a bad habit of nibbling on my bra strap - easy to do when I wear singlets almost all the time - but it is not always strap that he gets. I often get pinched and of course I yelp and jump, which makes him squeal and bite! My shoulders are scratched to shreds from his claws - because he cannot fly, he hangs on tight! He is messy and loud, and insists on trying to put his beak into my mouth ... He also pulls my hair out of its ponytail and clip, then gets caught up in the hair, panics, pulls it out or bites it off and nips me, thinking something has hold of him! Silly bird!! My hair is neat until he gets hold of it. I hate to think what my hairdresser's reaction is going to be next time I get it trimmed. Speaking of mess, budgies are the least messy birds that I have come across, with the possible exception of Pippy the canary, although she did flood the floor when she had a bath in her water! Learning about a different species is interesting. He doesn't poo while asleep during the night, like a budgie; he saves it up and does one huge, gigantic one soon after waking up, but not always immediately. You really don't want to be under that one! And they are green, not black-grey. If a budgie pooped the colour of Loki's you would have that little bird to the vet asap. He is no longer scared of his grass bundles, I got told off this morning because his seed didn't come with its usual almond (just one), he was also scared of corn on the cob when I first tried him but now looks for it first on his veggie kebab. He is interested in the budgies, but they are wary of him, understandably. Spyro seems the least afraid, and took over his cage a few days ago while Loki was climbing around on the top of it. They were both inside it for a short time - Loki trying to check out the little bird, Spyro moving away just enough to keep out of reach. After a few minutes of me watching this (to make sure Spyro stayed safe), Spyro flew out and went back to the budgie cages.
