Fireworks.....
I also have two dogs, one is an 11 year old staffy and she is traumatised by fireworks. She's not had a bad experience with them, she has just never liked the noise. I'll be getting her old crate that she hasn't used for years and years, and draping a blanket over it so she has a den to hid in. Poor luv, she shakes like a leaf.
Anyone else had this with a pet being scared by fireworks? All the birds, and my other dog are fine. When I was a kid we had cats and we kept them inside around bonfire time, they never use to be bothered by the noise though.

Do you have the pictures set to Private? So far my buds have not been bothered by fireworks. I don't let them have bangers though. It is a worrying time for some pets I must agree. If it was kept to one night it would be better, but it seems to go on for a week nowadays. Good luck.

You can get a herbal treatment now for dogs which is meant to make them feel calmer. My old dog used to shake terribly too.

I will look into the herbal treatment thanks.
She's on lifetime medication due to environmental allergies so I've always been hesitant to get anything from the vet to make her drowsy.
Last night was okay thankfully.
It's true, it's never just one night anymore it's always over several nights! I can't moan though, I use to enjoy it as a kid.

I don't know about dogs and cats as I have never had any. But the loud fireworks terrify my budgies. I'm not talking about the ones at properly controlled displays. The ones that are horrendous are when the people on my estate, especially right outside my window lets of those horrendous screaming and banging fireworks.
Can't they go to a proper display or just have some sparklers and a mug of hot chocolate in the garden?!
Selling fireworks to members of the public is one of my bugbears actually, some of the ones in asda look like missiles and they are HUGE!
My budgies will shoot across the room in terror and then stay stock still with wide eyes looking terrified. Just like when a huge crow landed outside the window last week!

Here is just one, there are loads online, just check with vet first to make sure they don't clash... MagiCalm for Naturally Calmer Dogs

Marianne Marlow, we are on the opposite side of the UK coin. Firecrackers have been banned from public sale since I don't know when ..... 1972, Mr Google tells me .... here in Australia, due to the number of injuries sustained by the number of idiots who insisted in using them in ways they were never intended. Fireworks are only legally allowed to be set off by those who have the appropriate certificate(s). I have fond memories of "Cracker Night" as a child, but we lived in the bush, and were oh so heavily disciplined in their use by my father. He was very WHS aware, before WHS was even invented!!

Well your father sounded like a very sensible chap when it came to fireworks!
We had adverts on telling people what to do to be safe with fireworks but as you say there are always idiots that chuck them at people or run back to get them if they don't go off, or keep them all in a box near a fire... the list is endless.
I just wish they'd not let them off in their back gardens, right below me!!
I am meant to go somewhere tonight for a couple of hours, but have to stay in to make sure the budgies are okay as we're in for another 2 nights of loud bangs as soon as it gets dark at about 5pm. Last night was horrendous.

Agree that selling fireworks to the general public in the UK is madness. I do have memories of my childhood (long ago!) when my (responsible) father let some off in the back garden, but quite frankly, my childhood would have been absolutely fine had we gone to an organised firework display instead!

Dad was a snarly old bugger, but he did everything possible to keep us, as kids, as safe as humanly possible without being stupid about it. If something happens and you are more than a hour from any sort of medical attention, your chances are not great. Better to be cautious in the first place. It is only as an adult myself that I appreciate his efforts to make sure accidents were kept to a minimum ..... and if anything was going to happen, it was going to happen to him, not us.

Were in the same club with the pets, we have a Lhasa apso who doesn't like them. If I'm not in the kitchen with him he will try and squeeze under the kitchen units. I end up having him on my knee all night. The other Lhasa apso will quite happily go outside and watch them. Buds will be on lockdown in the aviary , they seem to be quite happy . Have to do same for xmas and new year as well
