Ohhh bless his heart, he is like my Tilly What a horrible time you have had, both of you. As you say the diabetes can be controlled which is a blessing. I believe Cushings can be controlled with meds but i pray he hasn't got that too, i have everything crossed for you both.

He is such a good dog, he lets her take blood, poke, prod him. So proud of him. Glucose was sky high told her I've bought a monitor which I'm awaiting to arrive then I can monitor it at home. Hopefully once the monitor arrives his insulin can be altered to suit and his glucose will go into the normal range. It should be between 8-10, today Alfie's was 24 Once regulated, she said she will redo the Cushing's test. skysmum is Tilly your dog? Do you mean she looks like Alfie or that she is diabetic?

Yes Tilly is my little JRT, she is 12. Thankfully she isn't diabetic. Poor little Alfie, that's a high reading . As they say it could be the sugar giving a false cushings reading. It's very hard to diagnose i understand, especially with the diabetes raging. Everything crossed for the little chap, i can relate to how you feel

Geez 24 is rather high (am type 1 diabetic myself) fingers crossed that they can get his glucose down you may find he is more tired and thirsty so make sure he has lots of water to drink - he will obviously want to pee more too Oh another thing, if he still has the tummy infection that can make his bloods higher too If you have any questions then by all means PM me as I have dealt with this for approx 38yrs Have everything crossed for Alfie clt80 bless the little sausage x

Thanks all. I suspect he developed diabetes last Summer samwiseg but we didn't know until he got hemorrhagic gastroenteritis the other week. Extreme drinking and peeing, wetting at night as he couldn't hold it, starving when he'd been fed, vomiting, and I can't even tell you the horrors of the diarrhea and blood he was passing. The anti biotics have got rid of the gastroenteritis and I think the key to regulating his diabetes will be the home testing. I'm eagerly awaiting this kit so I can start monitoring his blood glucose levels and adjust his insulin to get the numbers down. He is better than he was, he was so bad the other week, but he is still poorly if you know what I mean. Led on the sofa, not as alert. He would always let me cuddle him for a couple of minutes then want to run off, it was just what he did. Whereas now he lets me cuddle him properly; I love cuddling him but I know he's letting me because he feels poorly. He must be sick of me constantly kissing his head. Oddly, my other dog loves a cuddle and kisses on her head. She will sit for hours on my knee asleep in the evenings. Im just glad nothing showed on the scan the other day, that was a huge milestone to get past with an all clear.

Once you get his food sorted out and he is having the same amount at every meal his levels will settle down. Good luck and remember you are doing it all for his good, don't feel bad about the injections or the blood testing.

Once his sugar levels go down he will feel better in himself too, a high blood sugar level makes one feel really ropey! Fingers crossed this all gets sorted really quickly for you both now.

The monitor didn't arrive today, so I went the chemist and bought one. I didn't think today could get much worse than yesterday. Long story in a nutshell our vets said they'd sort our insurance forms out as there is three conditions going on and numerous tests been done for each, then yesterday the reception manager called to say we need to pay upfront from now on and I need to take ownership of the claim forms. Sorry. Needed to vent. So today, It's been horrendous trying to get blood. It took over an hour and 15 attempts. I can only say I was in a mass panic and I was stressed to the hills. We eventually got it from under Alfies lip. Awful. He is so brave. I was so upset I pulled out of a family meal this evening and passed on my apologies. The reading was 26 so we've increased his insulin and doing a curve which is taking blood and testing every 2 hours for 12 hours. I AM DREADING IT. But if we do it we can pass the results to my vets. So tomorrow I am staying in all day in order to do this. God, it has been a day from hell.

You are doing great. It's hard at first but if I tell you now that you will wonder what all the fuss was about in 3 months time you won't believe me, but it's true. It will become so easy, like you have been doing it forever. I was just like you, thought the world was a very dark and miserable place and that I was never going to get the hang of it all but I did and so will you. Just take it one day at a time, take a good deep breath and tell yourself you are a strong person doing great things for your baby. You'll get there, I promise.

Great encouragement there from someone who has been through this very mill. Stay strong, clt80, I am sure that you will do as starlingqueen has said - get the hang of it very quickly and get out of that dark horrid place that you are in at the moment. Do not forget to take care of you as well. Without you the rest won't happen, or not as smoothly, anyway. *Hugs*
