Thank you both for the encouragement. I am drained. I'm not sleeping and I'm constantly tired and worrying.
I did have a bit of a rant in my previous post, which isn't going to help anything. My vets have been really good with the exception of that one woman. I'll edit my previous post so it's not so negative towards them, that wasn't my intention and I feel rather bad.

It wasn't negative toward the vet practice in question; only the one person, who you haven't named. No reason to 'vet' the post, in my opinion. Your call.

That's right, as long as you don't name anyone in your rant then I wouldn't worry clt80I'm not surprised you're upset. Incompetent insensitive people in times of high stress are not appreciated.

I think they take it from the ear Shirls No need to concern yourself with having a rant clt80! We all get there plus they should know better because of dealing with such a sensitive and stressful time xx

Where did starlingqueen take blood from with her Teddy? Is there an easy place? The usual place is from the ear and inside the lip. I was however, "lucky" that Teddy had 2 warts that would bleed with very light aggravation, I just had to touch them to get blood. i did use the normal route as well though as I didn't want to infect the warts.

Shirls we are getting it from under his lip. We tried ears, elbows and pads: no luck. We've just come out of a chemist and bought some more lancet needles which are singular so hoping these will help rather than trying to use to automatic thing.

Love and hugs to you clt80, for what its worth I think you are doing great in this very alien situation. Don't worry about having a rant, if you can't rant to us lot there is no hope! You rant away, its good to let off steam. Power to you.

Whilst I was uploading budgie pictures I thought I'd upload one of Alfie, with Lexie, as they are right now: chilling out on the sofa.

What a gorgeous picture . My Beagle and Whippet used to curl up together on the sofa. I hope things are settling down with Alfie's diabetes.

My question, as well - how are you getting on with Alfie's diabetes?

Well, he is better than he was originally at diagnosis but he is still very poorly. The weight continues to drop off, he's constantly starving, the blood glucose testing is horrendous although he is so good and lets us do it but we can see he is scared and it hurts him.
I've done a lot of reading and joined forums, recorded notes as long as my leg on daily info: dosage, weight of food, his weight, BG levels. I feel we have made progress, just not enough yet for him to be 'okay' if that makes sense. I'm hoping once we have the right insulin dosage the hunger will stop and the weight will start to return.

Bless him, it takes time to regulate but im sure you will get there, your doing so well. I worked with a girl years ago who refused to even try when her lovely dog was diagnosed, he was only 7 and a beautiful boy, she had him put straight to sleep, i don't know how she lived with herself
