I was going to post this on the Alexa thread but couldn't find it again. I'm still having fun with my Alexa. We are consistently being told to wash our hands for 20 seconds. For those of you with an Alexa, say "Alexa play the hand washing song" and be prepared to be amused!

Having to use my phone as a mobile hotspot and it barely worked with my echo dot.

So sorry Marianne Marlow. Alexa has been a companion during the shutdown. Every morning I say "Alexa, good morning" and she tells me good morning and gives me a fun fact for the day. During the day I ask her for the weather forecast, about news items, recipes or whatever I want to know. When I'm posting here and want to give a temperature, she gives me the temp in C or if I'm reading a post, she'll give me the temp in F for one that's posted in C. Between Alexa, Tweetie Pie and Buddy, I'm keeping sane.

Awww too bad jellybean. Must be the difference between programming in the US and UK. Its a very peppy rap type song about washing hands and avoiding germs - quite amusing.

I hear people arguing viciously, neighbours, on the way to work, shopping... Most people seem so downcast & miserable. As a cleaner the pressure to sanitise all touch surfaces on top of my usual cleaning without extra time is exhausting - one financial place I work in has become almost obsessive about it - the place is inspected by one staff member before the others go in, I leave a sign to say I've been and have to re-clean if I forget to leave it. Talking to other cleaners it's the same everywhere, exhaustion, burn-out, loss of motivation, stress & illness. It must be even worse for staff in health. I'm almost grateful to have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, cleaning is becoming too much so I'll be looking for a nice, boring office job soon! The disruption to kids' lives is terrible, a large number of charities here in the UK have called on HM Gov to prioritise children's needs, though it'll prob fall on deaf ears. I think the general atmosphere of where I live is really depressing, the town centre is still very quiet. Some good news, though, the local cafe where I meet up with the other duster-hustling-mop-chicks/dudes (cleaners) is opening soon - there's an exotic milkshake & a HUGE slice of choc cake with my name on just waiting...

Yum @cal, that cake and milkshake sound good! I'm forming an idea that part of the problem is that the masks hide our facial expressions. So much communication goes on by reading facial expressions and reacting to that. Every where I go people seem so grumpy. I've started making it a point to speak to people and make sure they can hear the smile in my voice. I've just ordered a new mask from Etsy (is Etsy international - they have many items that are made by cottage industries). Its a yellow mask with the smile from the smiley face on it. I'm hoping when people see it they'll feel better. And yes, it is a good mask with three layers and a pocket where you can add a filter to make it more protective.

A smiley mask, that sounds really good, could you paste a link? Tbh I don't usually wear a mask except on the bus (mandatory here) & when I have to go into a shop, I always cycle everywhere, work alone at both my jobs & shop online. Social distancing is enforced in shops, but I've only seen a few people wearing masks. I actually got a load of abuse from someone for social distancing - said he didn't have the lurgy (local dialect for a serious infectious illness of indeterminate name) & I made him feel like a @!%! &%!@ !!!! (loosely translated, a social leper). One nutter even coughed in my face as we passed each other on the path - crikey, he was lucky I didn't floor him with a right hook! The language! I didn't realise I knew so many expletives I'll just be glad to have some kind of normality back.

Here's the mask I ordered. If they don't ship to England, maybe there's someone where you are that could make one for you. www.etsy.com/transaction/1943120378Its too bad people are rude about face masks and social distancing. People here are also complaining about wearing face masks and saying that the government is limiting their rights by requiring them. The governor of California addressed that in his briefing today. He said it is no different from requiring people to wear seat belts in a car or wearing a helmet when on a motorcycle - it is for public safety. I thought that was a good way to present it.

Love the cloth pattern samwiseg! I have no talent with needle and thread of any kind and just end up frustrated when I try.

Hi tweetiepiesmom, I forgot I had an old etsy account already so was able to log into their UK site, so no prob with delivery. The link you gave didn't work, but as it says "transaction" in it, maybe delete it as it might contain personal info if someone could access it in the US. Here's the link for the Etsy UK smiley masks www.etsy.com/uk/search?q=smiley%20face%20mask&ref=auto-1There was a "Yellow Funny Smile Emoji face mask" - ye gods, it'd make me look like The Joker from Batman. I'd have the local population fleeing in terror There's a few very nice ones, I think I'll order one of the masks with little flowers on for my daughter. I love the idea of making them, too, samwiseg's look really good. I'll have a go, anyway
