When I lived overseas we washed our salad stuff and fruit in a weak solution of Milton (as used to sterilise baby stuff). That should work tweetiepiesmom. Btw, I don't have a niece!!!

I do I think that's who tweetiepiesmom meant. Just had a little chat with my niece and she feels fine now. My Tesco Metro is well stocked again today, apart from rice, pasta and loo roll. It was quiet out again though. I've just taken in a parcel of 120 x 100g felix cat food for the empty house opposite. I hope someone else in the street didn't make an error with their address when ordering. Maybe the owner of the parcel is poised to move in. The house sold a few months ago but I've hardly seen anyone round there. I've spent the morning creating new email and Skype account ready for switching my tutoring online. I got a bit stressed that I was seeing a mirror image of what I was writing but was relieved to see that the person on the other end on the call gets the image the right way round. I've just got to write a little note to parents with my details. I'm still happy for students to come round if they want to as long. David is still going out to work in a school so I'm at just as much risk of catching it from him as them. He's a long term supply teacher so we don't know if he will get paid anything if schools close. Our twin nephews have been sent home from school until after the holidays because one of them coughed. He's had a cough for the past month after he had a bad cold but the school still decided to send them both home. They're currently staying with their Nan (age 68) so she now has them 24 hours a day. Their dad still travelled to Ireland for St Patrick's Day which I can't understand at all. He will hopefully be back at the weekend. Their step mum is working double shifts to cover staff absence.

This is the thing, the domino effect. I just walked to my shops, I bent down as two packets of something at the back, yes it was mince yay
My road, nearly all the houses had at least one car in the drive. Normally very few there in the day.
I started work again today after being off since November, but at home. But now going into our office and all travel was banned last week. Most of us wfh half the time anyway, so the systems are in place.
It’s all very weird at the mo and I imagine it will get worse then hopefully peak, improve a bit

Yes, Shirls I got you mixed up with criswell niece - sorry about that. There was an article in the LA Times this morning that says the coronavirus does not stay on fruit and veggies but a simple wash with dish washing detergent followed with a good rinse will do. I had a nice dinner with 4 very good friends - corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day. All of us are over 65 and have been staying home so we know we are "safe". It was good to be around friends. I have another friend who flew to Florida to visit family before all of this happened. She's going to stay there for a more extended visit until she thinks it is safer to fly back here. I just shake my head at people who are taking big risks now but that's their decision. Today we heard that the border between Canada and the US will be closed except for commerce. The government is also anticipating that schools will be closed until about July. The government is doing a re-assessment every two weeks on what needs to be closed. Also heard that the vaccine trial in Washington is going well so far and a simpler test for the coronavirus is being developed which will be easier to conduct and get faster results. Hopefully all the countries that are developing the vaccine will be successful and it can be rolled out worldwide soon.

Whilst that is true skysmum, this is a very new virus and is continually growing, so we do not know what the future implications will be. Yes it's very uncertain for sure . It's the madness that has ensued with it that i don't get, the panic buying, they tell us to avoid mass gatherings and we all rush out with each other to shop

All schools now shutting except for children of key workers. It’s all so depressing. So many parents won’t be able to work, earn money etc.

The Government has to make sure everyone is still paid, or that all bills, rent, mortgage are suspended. It's worrying enough without having no money.
The bursar at the school where David works as a supply teacher spoke to him just before he left and they are still going to pay him. It is such a relief. They didn't have to pay him so I'm pleased that they still want to. The last statement from supply teacher agencies was that teaches doing daily supply will not be paid when schools close as there will be no work. I'm very concerned for them and other agency workers.
I've not watched today's press conference yet as I was teaching. My student's dad is a taxi driver and he's had very little work this week. They must be very worried about their income.

Casual shifts gone, and staff being asked to take any annual leave is the word from where I work, only part-time. Will know more probably by the end of the day.

That's a shame Hezz, it seems that everyone is going to be a bit hard up.

My youngest son works for a water company so he will have to carry on working, impossible for him to work from home. Grandkids at home next until the schools reopen, so my daughter in law will be off work with no wages. My eldest son is in car sales and has no idea what will be happening to his job. No-one is buying cars at the moment.

it is so hard for so many income wise.. the government are saying there will be measures put in place, like the mortgage payment holiday for 3 months and similar. It is such a worry, perhaps they could ring the mortgage company? might relieve the worry a bit?
some companies I think are offering a reduction in income, to retain their staff.
actually I wonder, would everyone who cannot work, get state benefit immediately, worth asking as it might be there will be something for families with kids especially

David had an email from the Welsh Government and all teachers who can do are expected to go to work next week. The message was a bit cryptic and talks about schools needing to be there to help the community,so he's not sure what he will being doing apart from supporting the children of necessary workers but maybe schools are going to have a wider role to play. The plans haven't been finalised yet. I expect a similar thing might happen with other workers, agency or otherwise - they may be drafted in to do other jobs if they don't need to be in isolation. I expect he will have more news when he gets home. Many teachers have children to look after but they could bring them to work with them. I hope there is going to be testing in schools as we can't have essential worker children catching the virus and taking it home to their parents.
The box of cat food for the unoccupied house, No. 5, is still with me. I had 2 of my own parcels delivered today and the driver asked about No. 5 because he had a box of nappies for them. He didn't want me to take the parcel. I showed him the box from yesterday and he told me it's from Amazon's Newport depot so if no one claims it in a couple of days I will contact them to see if we can find the owner. Hopefully him taking the new parcel back will trigger something at Amazon to sort out the problem.
