That's a big statement to make from a ham actor on Eastenders. Indeed. I can't bear the man, but they haven't done too well so far.

We just had our big Thanksgiving holiday which is a big time for families to gather and share a meal. Apparently many people still did that. As a result hospitals in California are now full with no beds available and the death rate is higher than it has ever been. People are still planning on gathering at Christmas. The news interviewed someone getting on a plane to visit relatives for Christmas. She said she hadn't seen her family in 8 years and wanted to go. Does she realize there is the potential that she may never see some of them again?

I know, Makes me mad. A neighbourhood site I’m on, someone wrote don’t believe all you read, chill. I said clearly, you don’t know anyone who has had it or died from it then
I reckon we’ll go into full lockdown on Boxing Day. Canada is about to

There have been 150 people in my state who flew from abroad, without negative Covid certificate and weren't asked to test on arrival. Now, the state government is trying to trace them. 🤦♀️
This is the exact same thing that happened last time. Every one at the airport also starts being liberal and that makes the mess. People are anyways not at all responsible. Hardly, the numbers were going down. I just think, why people can't be responsible themselves just for the sake of other's life or their close one's life.
International travelers are asked for home quarantine, but they can meet anyone till they reach their home for quarantine, unless registered on the app to track covid contacts.. Nothing makes sense to me. The first wave had brought the country to the 2nd number, even with the stringent rules in place. Second wave might or might not be the same. I need to ask my parents to stay home..worried about them..

I know there’s this new strain, but I was thinking, is it really spreading quicker or is it that people are in more. When we first went into lockdown months ago, the weather suddenly was amazing. So yes this is spreading fast, but maybe it’s not that the actual virus is, if that makes sense

I know what you mean ffiscool. They are saying here that it spreads faster but that the vaccine will still be effective against it. People here are acting like there is no pandemic going on so it is spreading like crazy. I took Tweetie Pie to the vet today and I drove past two shopping centers. Both were full of parked cars. The roads were also jammed with drivers. Good thing I allowed extra time! The news is saying the worst places to be right now are shopping centers and grocery stores.

My niece who works for NHS said it’s spreading more quickly because it’s being found, more tests etc being done. So more shows up. Including asymptomatic who were part of trials. Plus with so much being thrown at first strain, another strain would always happen and continue to, same as flu does. Vaccines are tweaked each year

Ugh! I hate the thought of getting a vaccine every year. How come we can't have a "one vaccine completes it" like the measles vaccine? We are now at 2 million cases in California. It took 8 months to get to 1 million but only 2 months to get to 2 million. I shudder to think what Jan will be like. Many people are stocking up anticipating another total shut down in Jan. I personally think they need to do another total shut down because the hospitals are already full. We can't count on any help from Trump because he's totally occupied with overturning the election results. During the big outbreak in the spring he sent a Navy hospital ship to LA to help. We could use it now. The news reported that ambulances are waiting with people to be admitted for an hour because the hospitals are all full.

Very similar here re the ambulances. I think it’s also spreading quicker because so many people are fed up with rules, so they don’t adhere. I hope we do go into full lockdown for a maybe 2 week period. Schools here won’t go back as early as normal
Trump - biggest waste of space

Thank goodness Astra Zeneca is now an approved vaccine
Still think we need total lockdown for a few weeks. The tiers are fine if everyone sticks to it. But they’re not. Look at Piers Morgan’s son.

"Piers Morgan has been contacted for comment but has remained quiet on Twitter and Instagram". Well, that makes a change.
I am ready for my vaccination as soon as they call, although I know it will probably be a month or so. It's frightening how quickly it is spreading and we haven't seen the results of Christmas yet. 981 deaths today, shocking! I lost another friend just before Christmas. I knew he had Covid but I hadn't even realised he was in hospital let alone on a ventilator. He was 69, he ran and cycled and was generally a very fit man.

I’m Sorry to hear about your friend, it’s even crazier when they appear to be fit etc. as you’d think it would go in your favour.
Well some say Piers is with him. If he is, he’d have to stand down from GMB
There will still be people at parties tomorrow, I’m sure. Selfish. It was said so many times today in the briefing and after, please adhere to the rules etc

Thanks. Second one from Covid and also lost a friend who had a late diagnosis of ovarian cancer and late treatment indirectly due to Covid.
I think it's easier when there's a full lockdown. Everyone knows where they stand, and it's easy for the police to spot rule breakers. When we had the full lockdown at the beginning of all this the police were cruising round, checking out the skatepark near me and talking to people who had gathered in groups. Of course, it's not so easy in the winter when people are indoors but hopefully they should spot pubs open when they shouldn't be and large house parties.
If I spot a large party near me I will definitely be making a phone call to the police, although they probably won't want to know.

Agree. I just can’t bear that these people don’t even care. Think they’re above it all.

I heard on the news today that many people have the attitude that if they catch it, so be it and let the hospitals deal with it. They must be ignoring what the covid virus does to people plus all hospitals in the LA area are full. One has converted a cafeteria to a non-covid ward. Imagine if you were having a baby or had a heart attack?
I agree that a total shut down is the only way to go now - close everything except grocery and drugstores and everybody stays home. Sure, it'll be tough on the economy but maybe we'll recover faster.
