Good to hear you’re managing mona, but it must be very frightening. I think lockdown has been very important here so I hope your government implements lockdowns in India until the new cases and death numbers drop.

At least three states have declared lockdown for next one or two weeks, from Monday..
Our state hasn't declared yet - they have reduced the testing instead & published that there are less new cases 😅 Ours will be the last to lockdown, due to business mindset.. But,I really wish they go for a lockdown.
Also, a nearby village had a religious procession with thousands to a temple to ward off covid by offering water without mask or social distancing. They arrested 25 people..but the jails are full too now.. 😂 I don't know whether to laugh or cry.. 🤦♀️🤦♀️ There should be a limit to superstition!! My hubby's organization is just 6 kilometers from that village and workers attend the manufacturing unit from that village. I just can't get enough of people's carelessness.. 🤦♀️🤦♀️ Even after 2nd wave, people will again be careless, for sure.. No idea how it will ever be under control..
One of the businessman Ambani bought a technology to detect covid rapidly.. He will roll out something affordable hopefully soon..
Though there's a lot negative to be scared and angry about, there are some positive stories too.. about the drive in oxygen by Sikh in north India for free.. and a south indian kid who traveled with oxygen cylinder on his motorcycle all the way to north India within a day to save his friend who was in need of oxygen. It's difficult to cover that distance in a day.. Police at state borders co-operated too and he was allowed to cross states.. He reached, helped and his friend was saved.. he was really selfless to help his friend like that!!

Lockdown does seem to work but it is painful! We started with a complete 100% lockdown except for emergency services (Hospitals, fire department, police) and grocery stores for about 3 weeks and then very limited businesses open. People either worked from home or didn't work. The number of cases started going down. After a short while people got tired of being restricted to home. Then major holidays came along and people got together to celebrate. There were demonstrations and cases went back up. Now after a year, cases are going down a lot but we also have a vaccine and better treatments especially if the infection is treated within a couple of days. Hopefully these things are being made available to India.

I love how such selfless acts happen in these distressing situations. What an amazing young man to travel such a distance and I’m so glad he saved his friend. A story of hope like that just helps in hard times, I have to admit the lockdowns here haven’t really affected me much as I’m home-based and I’m not a social creature by choice. In the first lockdown hubby worked (as he’s a frontline worker), my daughter worked from home and my son was furloughed from March-July. So the only one leaving the house was my husband. My eldest son was also furloughed but he lives on a moorland/farm/shooting estate and so had plenty of land and estate management to keep him occupied. By the shorter second lockdown, everyone worked and by the third more serious one, my daughter alternated three days in the office and two days off with a colleague and both my son and hubby went to work. My eldest worked from home but has lots of his own business enterprises so always keeps himself busy. However, as bad as it has been for so many businesses, I think lockdown was necessary each time and only wished more people would abide by the rules. I agree tweetiepiesmom that once the good weather and bank holidays start, people throw all caution to the wind. I’d happily stay in a perpetual lockdown as our youngest son is classed as clinically vulnerable and so I’ve been strict and not even allowed my eldest and his girlfriend into the house other than on Christmas Day, but even then we socially distanced. So many people we know just haven’t followed regulations and I do understand and empathise that some people need to be around lots of other people and get cabin fever if they can’t go out, so I empathise it has been hard and my daughter and second son found it tough having relationships with the lockdowns too. Hopefully the vaccine will mean the need for hospitalisations will be reduced considerably and if they offer a booster in the autumn, I’d definitely feel more confident that we won’t be facing such horrid statistics again. Sadly, I feel young people have become immune to the figures and it’s just a number to them they hear and ignore. They somehow distance themselves from it being someone’s loved one fighting for life. The various protests for BLM, Extinction Rebellion, Anti-lockdown, Anti-vaccine, etc., have driven me mad. We should have kept the water cannons to send them packing and as a deterrent. Mass congregations leave me gobsmacked to be honest. I really hope that as more states are locked down, more oxygen and aid gets through and the population starts to receive more vaccines, we will see a change for the better in India mona. I’m sure it can’t come quick enough for you. Stay safe.

It depends on how many loved and close ones you have lost. We haven't lost so many close ones in any traffic or other accidents, as we have in Covid. And even the covid deaths of our close ones have not been registered under covid deaths. Neither that they were covid affected was registered.
The scientific facts you have expressed is good, but recently many of our family members have suffered from covid, including us and waited for hours outside hospitals and testing labs feeling sick. One of our friend had to get the eye ball removed due to development of black fungus growth in eyes, due to covid. Not even reading the news, daily I have to deal with something bad happening to the people I know. It's even disturbing to share such events with anyone, due to which I don't prefer to share it with anyone. It's not media that has generated panic, it's the reality that's happening around us is generating panic. Personally to me, numbers don't matter - every single life matters and for every single person I have lost, it will haunt me for a lifetime & always make me think what could have been done.
Lockdown isn't a permanent solution, but at least the accident events never faced an issue to wait outside hospitals, due to non availability of resources. It's more about preparing the healthcare cope up with it. I am seeing my healthcare friends doing double and triple shift. Root & ground reality is very different than what is perceived at any other level. Every time my best friend or my relatives are in the covid ward, I'm worried about them catching infection & suffering from it..If they will recover or not, if someone would help them or not.. my healthcare friend caught covid twice & recovered, but had to report to duty the next day for double shifts again. I couldn't reach out to her for days.. worried every day, thinking if she is fine, if she is alive..if I would be able to talk to her again.
The countries which have relaxed the rules also have the pandemic under control and the ones who have not, are suffering like us. Sorry to say, but the country isn't prepared to deal with what's happening on ground, neither the vaccinations.. my househelp's relative caught covid and they have spent all their savings on saving that person - considering they are already poor, how can they be saved with full govt hospitals & costly private hospital treatments.. My family is still waiting on 2nd dosage for my parents which had been delayed to 45 days instead of 28 days and still they aren't getting the jab. Is the economy doing well without the lockdown? Is the GDP still the same without the lockdown or than last year's lockdown? How about Nifty and sensex? This thought process about more people dying from accidents has led to more cases & no precautions. The case sheets have become merely a number for a few!
Sorry, if I sounded a bit rude, but after losing my loved ones and my family still at risk, I couldn't control myself from posting it.

I got my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday afternoon. About an hour afterwards, my arm started getting sore. The pharmacist who gave me the shot, suggested that I rub some arnica gel or something similar for sore muscles on it. I did have some arnica gel and it helped - didn't take all the soreness away but a lot of it. Today I'm tired, like I'd stayed up all night. Otherwise, all good!
On the positive side we are being told that anyone who has had both doses doesn't need to wear a mask. There are some places that are still requiring masks. For those that are no longer requiring masks, we are on the honor system. You don't need to show proof of vaccination. Yes, some people who have not had the vaccine will take advantage of that and not wear a mask.

glad you have gotten through the 2nd one ok - arnica gel sounds good. Weirdly, I didnt even get a sore arm with the 2nd Astra Zeneca, yet others did. I was very tired for 2 days after my second jab, but then ok..
I am surprised about the masks as it is not proven you cannot still transmit or catch it. I went into a shopping centre today, as had things to take back that I ordered online, they are still insisting on masks and have people on the doors to the shops. But I was in one shop where quite a few did not have masks, and were probably late 30s and younger. it did bother me.
I think the aim is by 21st June here, masks might be done away with, although that may alter, given we have a new strain here that is quite aggressive in certain parts of England at the moment.
From monday we can go into restaurants and the like, again. I am eating out Tuesday with a friend, but have been to this place before and they are very good. cutlery is individually wrapped, menus paper and used once

My second vaccine is next Saturday so I’m expecting to feel a bit off for the weekend and haven’t made any plans so I can disappear to bed if I get the headache, chills and bone/joint pain again. Still a small price to put up with to offer some immunity. This new strain is worrying and I will definitely be glad when my adult children have all been vaccinated as I think they will be the ones doing most mixing, especially with venues opening on Monday and returning to the rule of 6. Our main priority is to protect our son with autism and as a teen, I’ll be glad when he’s offered one as he’s classed as clinically vulnerable. Not quite sure how we’ll get on taking him there but hope he’ll understand the need. I think it’s going to take a couple of weeks to see how things play out with this new variant and potentially, when the stats are in, some hard decisions may have to be made, especially if the vaccine isn’t enough to prevent hospitalisations. It’s so difficult as I’m home-based and have no need to go out other than for medical reasons and I love being at home, so I’m happy with restrictions being implemented, but I’ve seen how my sons have struggled and I know so many young people who haven’t bothered to follow the guidelines for ages. I try hard to see it from a young adults perspective but I think my opinion is a little skewed by the desperate need to want to protect my youngest son. Young people are meeting up, travelling and breaking most restrictions and have been since the start of lockdown. So I think it’s important to get them vaccinated but of course, with it taking 3 weeks for that first vaccine’s level of immunity to build up, are we already too late if this current variation is as transmissible as the data so far suggests?

I think you’ll be fine as most 2nd doses seem to have very few side effects. Agree, it worries me too. All those who aren’t careful, etc. I think there will always be new strains but until we get the data etc,.... I’m finding more and more things bothering me in the last few days. I don’t know if anyway or the fact it’s raining so much, hearing about the new strains/all of it.
I like being home but know I need to get out and do more.
I hope your son will be ok, if not can anyone who can, come to you to vaccinate him?

Really good to hear you guys getting vaccinated. My dad & mother in law didn't have any side effect, while my mom & father in law had a few. Just hoping that they get their 2nd shot on time. My siblings are yet to receive the shots, since we belong to the younger generation. We are having quite a few positive cases post vaccination, but the intensity of the disease reduces with the vaccination already done.
We had covid recently so the doctor has advised us to go for vaccine after 3 months & that makes sense. Due to shortage, it would be better for the non infected to get vaccination first. I was recently worried about black fungus post covid, but read about it - it seems we are safe from that. It's affecting the ones with diabetes and who got steroid treatment. Fortunately, for us, it was none of it.
Who knows what kind of side effects we'll have post covid.. it has already messed up with a few things - mostly sensations with touch and temperature, but it seems okay to tolerate. I can't just bear anyone touching me or hugging me - it's just so uncomfortable and kind of painful (pins and needle kind). I guess that’s a natural post covid response for social distancing & too much AC 😅
I have read about Indian strain spreading in Europe. Hoping it is brought under control before it spreads out like it has, over here.

So sorry for what you are experiencing mona. I feel much better today. Thankfully the symptoms from the vaccine are short lived. I will continue to wear a mask when I'm out shopping because it has yet to be determined how effective the vaccine is against all the new strains.

Hoping it is brought under control before it spreads out like it has, over here. I think a lot of people are experiencing what they’re calling Long Covid, and many different symptoms persist, but as yet they don’t know how long for. It’s a very strange thing to be living with a virus that mutates and spreads easily where there’s no certainty about future effects. All we can do is stay as safe as we can, take the vaccine and hope all the people we come into contact with are being as vigilant. Preparation is the key with our son, ffiscool. So we always give him as long as we can to get used to an idea, even for going to the barbers. He knows about the vaccine and he also knows that he needs a booster vaccine this coming year for tetanus/polio/Diptheria as well as get his Meningitis ACWY shot. I’ve made him aware for a couple of years that by the time he’s 15 he needs these and his older siblings had them. So hopefully he’ll be fine going and I can’t imagine him playing up once he’s there, he’ll just be really uncomfortable being in a public place and with a stranger talking to him. The staff are all lovely. If there are any problems with the Covid vaccine, I’ll get in touch with the community immunisation team to see if they can do a home visit for his booster and Men ACWY shots. As with many things, I’m sure it’ll depend on where we’re at with Covid at the time. It feels like we could be on the brink of a third wave with the Indian variant taking hold but maybe the government will be able to hold it in the areas where it’s prevalent and stop it spreading throughout other areas. Before we know it, they’ll be rolling out the booster vaccine for the autumn, potentially running concurrently with the flu jab.

After each vaccine you should drink lots of water I'm told. It helped me a lot and therefore didn't suffer too much the second time. I didn't know about it the first time! Different surgeries and hubs tell you different/ or don't tell you different things, or even nothing at all.

Had my second one this morning and so far I feel okay, maybe a tad tired and a very light headache, but not enough to stop me carrying on as normal. Thanks for that tip Shirls. I’ll try and drink more through the day. I have to drink flavoured water as I struggle to drink it otherwise, but I’m sure it still counts when I make cups of tea. 😉
