As Hezz said don't put yourself down mona! Everyone's art is unique and special in its own way. I've always wanted to do realism. It actually started a long time ago when I was about 10 I used to copy cartoons such as Walt Disney and even the Simpsons But I only drew in graphite. It is my other half I have to thank because he told me I should challenge myself further so bought me 30 of the best quality coloured pencils. I was so scared! But I researched and practiced and the rest is history! To answer your question Hezz it does depend on how big the piece is. The meerkat didn't take long because it was only about A5 size. So couple of hours over a couple of days. Reason for this is I do have to come away from it to look at it with fresh eyes

I am in awe of anyone who can create art. I cannot draw or paint at all!
I can craft, like knitting, sewing and crocheting. I do a bit of macramé and even used to be quite good at pottery at school but I can't put anything on paper.

Dipping into this thread has been SO inspiring! I want to try lots of new things. But, this is something I have been doing for a while. It follows on from spending years of taking photos of things most people might consider strange. I remember some my colleagues laughing (but kindly) about the fact that I had taken lots of pictures of different coloured walls when on holiday in the Bahamas. This was in the days of actual film. Well, these images were made of out photos of boat hulls and keels - digital collages - so pictures of boats made out of pictures of boats . I am involved in coastal rowing myself and the boats and settings are so beautiful!

I didn't want to sound sad 🙈 Thank you for all the encouragement! I already feel inspired looking at this forum..
5 years back, the doctors asked me to quit my profession, at the peak of my career and almost all my hobbies! It came as a shock to me. I was lost for a couple of months, but then decided to not give up. Obviously, my doctors are angry with me.. 😅 My body would be submitted for research, when I'm done here! 😆 Now I can't do everything the same way I have always done..which makes it difficult to focus, but I am trying to keep my hobbies alive.. Fingers crossed! 🥰

I can draw simple botanical specimens such as beetles and the like, I can copy to a certain extent but I cannot create my own images. Crafts I can do - again that's copying someone else's creation whether it be a pattern or instructions. Some people have such talent. *Sigh*

I can follow a craft pattern if I learn the craft, I used to sew soft animals which was simple enough. I can trace an outline to get a pose and then make the inside my own. I can vaguely do a still life sketch and digitally paint it but cannot pencil shade, etc, for the life of me. I am envious at times of those who have the skill to create, it is such a beautiful thing to be cherished. It's lovely seeing everything you guys have made here though.

They are beautiful mona you are definitely doing the right thing continuing with your hobbies, you have such talent and I think that losing yourself in something that you enjoy can be very therapeutic. I love the collages birdguhl. I can almost smell the salt in the sea air.
