Hi lemonora, so sorry to hear Homer's hurt his foot, it's a worry I have with my Siri as he can't fly either. You don't give your location but if you google avian vet nearest to you maybe an online consultation would be possible. Poor little fella, I hope it's not serious.

I hope you're feeling better now lemonora Big cyber-hug! Sorry for late reply, I was up to my eyebrows in bud-related-matters, as usual! So pleased to hear Homer's getting better, it must have been quite a scare (deep breaths!) The search thing on here is brilliant - there's always someone been through the same thing & it's a source of quick answers from The Bud Wise Ones (that's not a reference to beer... ) Anyway, back to sterilising willow branches for The Bud Aerial Walkway... (I'm steaming them out on the balcony in a strong wind - hoping the neighbours don't think there's a fire call the Fire Brigade!)

lemonora I'm so glad Homer's leg is getting better. I don't know what your original post said but Homer was obviously in pain, and when our buds hurt we hurt. It's such a relief when they are on the mend.

Thank you for your sweet reply he fell on hard floor and is not ok we thought he broke his foot but he is standing on it and it’s not swollen or anything he just is fluffed up and can’t walk straight he keeps tipping like he is losing control of his foot, he is sleeping a lot but he is better than when it first happened, where he couldn’t even stand up (sorry I’m so emotional I can’t even think about it yet alone describe it) thanks again

Sorry, lemonora, but that sounds like there might be more than just a sore foot. Even when Spyro broke his leg he didn't have any problems sitting on a perch. How did he come to fall onto the floor? Your birds aren't clipped, are they? The reason I ask is that a fully flighted bird won't usually fall anywhere, except maybe down the back of furniture and that is because they don't have the space to use their wings. Keep Homer contained, quiet and calm so that he can rest and recover. I do hope he is okay, but am concerned that there might be more to what happened.

Thanks Hezz for your reply, no of course his wings aren’t clipped, he injured his wing around a year ago and can’t fly ever since, he tried to fly or jump to a toy and fell to the ground. I really hope he gets better, he is eating and drinking, but fluffed up and sleeping a lot he doesn’t tip over while perching, only when he is walking thanks again for the advice

Are his claws all okay? My bud managed to pull off a claw and it was very sore for a time. He could perch but was reluctant to use the foot for a time. He had a course of antibiotics in case of infection and happily his claw is growing back now.

blue48, glad your bird got better, no he didn't, his feet look normal to me he just kind of loses control of it while walking, he is still fluffed up and sleeping all the time, he eats seeds and water with ACV

Thank you blue48, Thanks for your reply and input I hope he gets better, we were contemplating taking him to a vet now but we still can't find a good vet and we mainly are too worried about him from the stress and trauma of the trip, he is very VERY skittish, if I wear a different shirt he would jump away like it was a monster. And I know how stress and fear can effect these little fragile beautiful creatures Thanks again

That does leave them vulnerable to hurting themselves as they think they should still be able to do what they used to do. He does still try to use his injured foot? Have you been able to feel the leg or foot to be sure that it isn’t broken? For a bit of pain relief you can make up a paste of cayenne pepper and water and give this to him, also adding some to his drinking water can help as well. It does settle out so you need to give it a mix every now and then. It doesn’t matter how much you add, using the handle of a teaspoon works well. A couple of these into his water could help him. And keep him warm - a bit of sun on his little bones would be appreciated, l’m sure. Hope he’s feeling better soon.
