Billy has a very milky white runny element to his droppings that is easily this colour. I could be wrong but I thought I would raise it anyway. If it's mucous then wouldn't there be seeds stuck to the cage bars/cover too? Are they milky vomits or runny poops that got flicked on the cover by someone trying to preen their bum? It's very white for vomit. That's a good question. It's the only colour I've ever seen. It's almost like the residue that Munchy would leave by regurgitating on something a lot, just without the grittiness. I sent the photo to the vet with my email so will see what he says. If I didn't cover them then I probably wouldn't see any evidence and wouldn't be at all concerned because they show no odd behaviour during the day.

If Billy's got that then it could be Munchy. Only if they have any in their crop, I'd imagine. I have very occasionally found a stuck seed or two. But this always happens between 5-7am, at least when I've heard it, and we put them to bed at 8, so they've probably digested nearly everything. The vet got back to me. He couldn't tell from the photo either and I'd need to identify the culprit first really. Everyone's their normal selves so we shall see how it goes. I thought I might solve Bowlgate by deferring to the budgies' preference, so I split their food between the ceramic bowls and the lidded ones. They all went for the ceramic first, possibly because Munchy did, which also may be due to me putting a ceramic bowl in first. But then Munchy used a lidded bowl, perhaps because it was far away from the other 3, and then a little later Indie used one too. So I am none the wiser really. Tomorrow I shall try again but put a plastic lidded bowl in first. Now that they know how to use both they probably don't care very much as long as there's food. I spent all of Saturday emptying the downstairs room and moving the bookcases, moving a set of shelves, building two other sets of shelves and constructing a bed frame. The topic of moving rooms had come up several times but was given a final go-ahead because we'd need extra living room space for the new arrival, and it really wouldn't be suitable for sleeping in as well at that point. The budgies had to stay in on Sunday because we were out in the morning and then had to demolish the wardrobe and reconstruct it downstairs, and then move about a total of 3 mattresses. They then stayed in Monday because I spent the whole day cleaning the upstairs room, laying vinyl down over the carpet, and dragging bits of furniture in and out of the room. Then yesterday I was out for half of the day and then still needed to organise the chaos of stuff that was scattered about. The upstairs room, now our living room, is now less chaotic than these photos but still not finished. But it's good enough to get the budgies back out at last. You'd think we'd put them in an entirely different room but, to be fair, it is completely shifted about. Downstairs bedroom: (not very interesting, especially as it has nothing to do with the budgies) The newly reorganised Cagemantle Heights: Everyone clinging to the safe space on top of the cage and then eventually exploring:

Just a relaxing Saturday then! That looks a lot of hard work but they’ve got a great area to explore and I’m sure will have lots of fun doing so.

Thanks everyone! It was hard work but well worth it. Cleaning up after them was really quick and easy today because we could just give the patches of floor a wipe. Got a little handheld vacuum arriving tomorrow for picking up the feathers, as we won't need the suction power of the big vacuum for that. The terrible terrors seem to think it's a completely new room, but they did start venturing about a bit more once I carried them on their gym over to the windowsill. They'll be fine before long, I'm sure. Hopefully they'll eat some veg tomorrow. After finding a total of 3 poos in 2 of the ceramic bowls, I have decided that they can no longer have nice things! 🤣 Lidded bowls for the dry food it is. Also then I don't need to cover the cage when they're out. But I figure that if I make some chop then they can have that in the colourful ceramic bowls. And thus my month long 'problem' comes to an end. (For now) (Seriously thinking I should download one of those meditation apps because my brain fixates on some petty issues at times) I'm hoping I can get all of their perches into the drawers under the sofa so that I can tidy up the shelf under the cage. Once I have things a bit more organised I'm looking forward to having lots of play areas set out again. And by 'play' I mean 'perch', because this lot are not so hot at the playing thing. Today Yuki and Pippin were playing with the paper string that's for tying the shredding mat in place rather than the shredding materials. 🤣 Little horrors!

Being able to wipe clean the lino floor is so nice! And feathers don't stick so we can just use a little handheld vacuum to pick up the feathers! The lino is just sitting on the carper, though, and somehow it seems to generate loads of folds of material once you have furniture on it, yet still touches the walls! Weird. We took a trip to the big petshop where I got Peri and Indie. I successfully came away without any additional animals. Of the budgies, if I'd had to choose one then there was one hen I really liked, though also a young normal green male eho I might have picked if I was just getting a single bird. There was a second hen that I quite liked too. Kind of a shame that I don't have room in the cage for them. If they could be out all day every day and only sleep in the cage then that would be one thing, but I think they'd be overcrowded whilst we're at work. Plus I don't think Munchy would appreciate more company and a change of dynamic, not when he's finally getting more comfortable with the other 3. There were some HUGE exhibition stock birds in there. They made Pippin look dainty! (Pippin acts dainty with his feet turned together, funnily enough) OH said looking at all the budgies in there made him want an aviary. There's no way that he could ever choose just one bird. He also had a strongndesire to change their water dish, which did get done shortly after. When looking, I'd love to choose on personality but when there's so many birds it really is mainly appearance that stands out. But then even though it's appearance that first catches my eye, it's then watching their personality unfold once they're home and settled. It always slightly surprises me when I realise that despite buying 5 out of 6 of my budgies, I've only actually chosen Indie. Emerald was already home when I got back from school, Granddad recommended Munchy because he looked the youngest, Peri I had eyed I believe but ended up saying 'I'll take that one' just because he was the only budgie in the aviary in a convenient spot for the keeper to catch and was mainly looking for a friend for Munchy so wasn't too fussed on appearance, Indie I chose because I loved his colour, only wanted one and felt the green and blue opaline spangles should be a pair, the other one I liked was a hen, and probably actually should have gone for the normal sky blue who seemed the boldest, Yuki was brought over by the breeder, and of course Pippin was a rehome. Actually, that's quite nice about rehomes, having no choice over the colour but just seeing who joins your family. Also love seeing Pippin happy. We did get new toys for the budgies to ignore! Thinking that maybe I should have gotten a 150ml bolt on coop cup just to see if the same brand 75ml ones that Karen from NaturalBirdCo uses fit in the hoop, but ah well. My week off has been so busy! These lot are getting used to the new room layout though.

Where’s the branch from, they’re sitting on?
You have been busy!!
It’s so hard to leave without a budgie. I’m glad mine don’t have any, I couldn’t bear walking away.

jellybean Thanks! My phone camera is pretty good, it's just getting them to stay still that's difficult. The video function zooms in more and you can catch their antics, the regular camera requires you to get quite close and then snap before someone flees! Where’s the branch from, they’re sitting on? You have been busy!! It’s so hard to leave without a budgie. I’m glad mine don’t have any, I couldn’t bear walking away. It's harder now that I'm home. I keep thinking a little wistfully about the ones that caught my eye. As my grandparents always said whenever I wanted one, or particularly once I sort of wanted a friend for Munchy: "There will be more cute budgies in the future." The branch is from the NaturalBirdCo. I told Karen that I was more than happy to have weird and wonderfully shaped perches. It's a cagetop perch, but it's on a base because she made me two full-width platforms but they were a touch too long to get into the cage and it was difficult to line all the bolt holes up with the gaps in the cage bars, so my housemate sawed them in half and drilled holes so that I could put the cage top perches I'd ordered into them. So now I can stand them on any surface, screw them to the cage top, or use the bolts on the platform to attach them to the side of the cage. IraMunchy's face says "I have to put up with this lot" I would say that's a very accurate evaluation of what he thinks about the youths!

A little Pippin update. He is being obnoxiously loud today, screeching contact calls. I think it was because none of them wanted to brave going near-ish to the wall to reach their food bowls on the other side of the grate though. He seems more settled now that I've bribed them over there with some millet. Pippin was very brave this morning. He hopped onto my arm to come out of the cage, and rather than immediately springboarding off like he has been doing he sat still for a few seconds before taking a couple of steps and then rocketing out. We found a use for the Nutriberries: a hand-held treat that we can offer between their pellet and seed rations. They get 2 between the 4 of them, and competition for perching spots on the pairs of hands is rife! They're the only thing we have that contains groats, which Pippin adores. He'll pull a groat off and then sits still, ruminating it with his eyes closed blissfully for at least a minute. His feet get so warm. It's very cute.
