Totally. Now he’s on one perch, hadn’t moved in ages. I held his seed bowl up and he had a little. I feel bad when they’re new, scared and feel sorry for themselves.

Have you covered his cage ffiscool, maybe just leave the front open, might help him feel a bit more secure.

That’s a good idea, thank you.
He seems to have spurts of interest.

Day 3 in the Max house
he is very vocal this morning, forgotten how loud chirps can be, last time I was with a budgie it was english, lol
I have no idea what the noise is about, I thought he didn't like things going by the window, so the nets are now down.
The silly boy flies through the swing to the other perch, rather than using it, although it is big, so maybe not condusive.
poops looking a bit better again, fingers crossed

Glad he's settling in well and poops are better. It's a strange period learning to read their specific body language etc - if only they could talk Hopefully once he lands on the swing he'll 'get' it and will use it from then on. I was cheered this morning to find egg-food scattered around Bramble's cage. Messy eater, I thought. I can cope with that, just happy that he's finally decided to try it. A bit later I heard a clatter and found him repeatedly lifting and dropping the feeder containing the egg-food, scattering it everywhere. Not such a good boy after all

lol, made me laugh.. yes he is getting rid of it, lol
Max is odd.. Bailey was odd, but..........
so he is not happy about the swing, and jumps through it, but if it has gone on an angle, he then has not worked out he can get across the cage using the bars. I am keeping the swing there as a smaller one is coming, and I think once he uses it, he will like it.
I offered basil... omg - the big scary green monster, he had to hide..
left it to one side. He won't go to the food, but took some from me earlier, he will though, I am sure when hungry. I have two waters up by perches.
I think he will be fine, but not that quickly. as he had been handled as a baby thought he might be better.
I moved a perch so he can jump about a bit easier. I just realised the bars on the front are vertical and only the sides are horizontal, but think my cage I had for Bailey was like that... he will get used to it.. He has to as not buying another cage

They’re such little characters aren’t they? Sounds as if Max moving about the cage shows he’s getting braver and more settled in his new home. When we got Jasper it was 21st December and it wasn’t until Christmas morning that she (we all thought boy for quite some time hence the name) made her first chirp. My daughter and I looked at each other and that was Christmas made perfect for us. I think it just takes time and a bit of patience until they lose their immediate fear and get used to new things. Glad to hear his droppings are improving. Hopefully that’s reduced your anxiety ffiscool. Had to chuckle at Bramble there willowsmum.

Well, I have now moved a perch a bit forward, so he can definitely now get from perch to perch.. turned the swing sideways so it is not in his way.
omg.. the things we do
oh that encourages me.. It was so long ago when I first had Bailey, I had forgotten.
Max can now do the first few rungs of the ladder, but seemingly not the last few, lol

Love watching and listening to his chirps. My guys' cage has horizontal bars on the sides and vertical on the front and back. Tweetie Pie and Buddy manage them just fine. Buddy will jump to the front and slide down to get to the bottom. It looks so funny. Once he was on my head and decided to try to slide down my hair to my shoulder. I wasn't too fond of that and reached up and plucked him off and put him on a perch in the cage. Surprisingly, he didn't argue or fight trying to get away. He hasn't tried it again.

lol..
weird thing is.. Max keeps trying to go to below one of the perches..but there is nothing there.. it is almost he sees something.. I put a perch lower but still he insists on going under it.. not sure why.. he ends up on the floor.. maybe he doesn't know how to go down the ladder, lol
in between all that, he sits there staring into space.
I need a budgie psychiatrist
