I was wondering who the mysterious Lyra was! She is just adorable!!
I think a higher protein diet can help birds with French molt that lose their flight feathers and regrow them and then lose them again in a cycle - just to keep up with the new feather growth. Maybe extra B Vitamins wouldn’t hurt either for the extra energy that feather growth probably requires. Otherwise eur seems that birds with FM usually get along just fine with just alittle extra TLC.
What a lucky pair of ladies, and they are so cute together! This just makes my heart melt 🥺

Morgan Currently they're getting egg food every day, which they can either eat or not. Also I am sprinkling "feather up" on their seed (foreign finch food, which has mixed millets plus canary seed) Of course they have the usual amount of veg that the others have too. Feather up says it has this in it: Vitamins A, D3, E plus 10 other vitamins. Rapisorb minerals: selenium, iron, cobalt, manganese, copper, zinc, magnesium plus iodine and sulphur. Limiting amino acids, protein and Glucose polymers. They're getting on very well, I have seen them head bob to eachother. There is an occasional squiggle when one wants to get past the other but nothing angry really.

I can see a friendship forming and they’ll be like a pair of gossips about the other buds. “Just who does Iris think she is? Go and bang something else and leave our seed trough alone. Turn your back, Lyra. She’s best ignored when she’s in this sort of mood.” “Ooh, look Penny, here comes Billy to try his chat-up lines again.” “Actually Lyra, it’s Bertie who is easy on my eye.”

Marianne Marlow I used to feed my two the commercial egg food because I'm allergic to eggs and hate the waste if I buy fresh eggs and then have to toss them out because my two can't eat that much. I believe it was Hezz who said there isn't much egg in the commercial egg food. I looked and she was right. I asked the bird nutritionist about keeping hard boiled eggs and discovered what told me is true. I buy only half a dozen at a time and boil them for about 15 minutes. I keep them in the shell and as long as the shell isn't cracked they've been good for a month. I toss them after a month not because they're bad but just because... My two get a bit of egg everyday and they'll eat about one egg a week. I chop up one egg at time and keep it in an airtight container in the frig. Also my frig doesn't smell like eggs. Maybe that might work for you for Penny and Lyra and then you won't need to buy commercial egg food.

I'm not sure how much egg was in my eggfood from Haiths, but I ended up buying a packet from the local shop because it was only 500g. It smells way sweeter, and I think has honey on the ingredients. Not sure they're fussed on it anyway, I should just offer them regular egg I suppose. Having 4 they'll get through a scrambled egg in 2 days (although I usually tithe a little to the cat too).

Eggfood is handy for those who, or those times when, fresh egg can’t be removed after a couple of hours. Also some buds don’t know what’s good for them and will eat only eggfood rather than the fresh egg. Silly things.

I didn't realise that the eggfood didn't have much egg in it, that's a bit of a con then considering it's name!

Mine are all good egg eaters so I might either bin or use up what I have and just give them the oyster shell in case they need calcium.
I experimented with making some little sock ponchos for Lyra, Marianne, but I couldn't get the neck hole the right size to get the head but not the wings through.

So sweet Ira that you made a try at a little poncho for Lyra. If you are feeding eggs (not egg food) to your budgies, you can also mix a bit of the ground egg shell in their food for extra calcium. Make sure you pull the membrane off the shell - not sure why except that the bird nutritionist said it wasn't good for them but the shell is.

That is so kind of you, but I am not sure I'd be able to get it on her, she's a real livewire! Quite possibly not! It was one of the reasons I'd planned on poppers rather than having to manipulate her wings through holes, but my little models proved too good at just wriggling out. Ira I'm just picturing you trying to get a poncho on a budgie! Getting it on wasn't too hard, it was keeping it on that was the problem!
