You are very brave Ira Ira I'm just picturing you trying to get a poncho on a budgie! Getting it on wasn't too hard, it was keeping it on that was the problem!

Munchy and Pippin are the ones whose beaks I have to fear. And after so many years of getting bitten by Munchy my fingers are immune. (There may be a correlation between my willingness to handle them and their wariness of me... )

They're getting on well. It's Iris that is being a pain, she bit Penny's foot today and made it bleed. Any suggestions on how to stop her doing this? Lyra can jump from one side of the cage to to the other, despite her lack of feathers. Penny has to climb using the bars. How are Penny and Lyra Marianne.

Both my husband and I handled Penny to make sure the wound wasn't too bad and clean it and she got some rather painful bites in, to both of us.

She still feels herself, then! Unfortunately I know of no way to stop Iris other than to keep her off of the cage bars, which is borderline impossible unless you put Penny and Lyra's cage inside something like a mesh enclosure when Iris is out and create a space between the cage bars and outer wall that Iris can't reach through.

I wish I had a solution. I could use one for keeping Loki from going to Mangoās cage. It doesnāt happen that often, and I think his is led by jealousy, because both budgie boys are always there when it does happen. Iām not ashamed to say that I yell at him when he does so, and shoo him off.
Does Iris attack from the side or top of the cage? I donāt have a solution for the sides but for the top of Mangoās I cover it with a piece of old cotton sheet or similar so that Loki canāt bite her feet while she climbs about on the roof of her cage. thatās her favourite way of getting around.
Had to laugh at them yesterday, though - Mango was under her paper just back from the bars of her cage āakkingā at Loki for all she was worth. there was a hole in the paper so that the paper sat around her like a cape.

It's very annoying, because I want P&L to be able to interact with the other budgies through the bars. She still feels herself, then! Iris attacks from the side. The roof is already covered with tiles, newspaper, seed pots and a playground. I've reinstated the two ladders, even though they don't need them to get up, because it means for that part of the ladder, neither hen needs to touch the bars. Although tbh, Lyra doesn't even use the ladders, she just hops and flaps straight up. Mango acking away, wearing a cape I wish I had a solution. Oh my! Iris really does see herself as the queen of your flock! Other than chasing Iris off P&L's cage, I don't know what else can be done. However, chasing Iris off may just make her want to go there even more.
BTW, there is a weekly webinar on parrots that I usually listen to. Frequently I get helpful/interesting tidbits on budgies. The vet who spoke a couple weeks ago said budgies can loose up to 60% of their blood and still survive ok. He said their fast metabolism comes along with a fast blood regeneration and it kicks in immediately when they bleed. They can replace a 60% blood loss within 48 hours, compared to humans who die with a 20% blood loss. He said to stop the bleeding as soon as possible and keep the budgie quiet and warm so its metabolism can be used for blood regeneration.

tweetiepiesmom It is my belief that Iris does all these things for attention. She pings the bars at night, knocks the seed troughs up and down on the vision cages, pulls Penny's tail and bites at her feet. Sometimes I throw a rolled up tissue at her as it can be constant!!

Just like some people who just have to constantly be the center of attention. I grew up with a sister like that and it was exhausting. If she didn't get the attention, she'd do anything to get the attention she craved.
