I don’t want to start this conversation, but I have to accept that I have lost Misty. He flew out a side door from the kitchen over my head on Wednesday, I think he was going to land on my head but I turned it at the wrong moment and he had nowhere to land … I didn’t know he was there behind me. The reason I use that door most of the time is that it is out of sight to the birds and they don’t see me come and go. He landed high up in a tree in the garden, with all the others outside n their cages calling to him and him calling back, seed and water, cage etc all out to entice him down, but we couldn’t get him to come down, and lost sight of him late in the afternoon. I spent Thursday visiting vets, scanning the neighbourhood with budgie sounds playing on my phone, placing lost ads etc. Some one messaged me on Sat to say they had found a budgie one suburb over and I was so hopeful that it was Misty, but not to be. Left his cage outside, open for a couple of nights, and the aviary doors in case he found his way back but I haven’t heard him again since I lost sight of him. This is so much worse than losing a bird to illness. ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png)

I'm so sorry Hezz.. It's sad to know that Misty flew away. You must be feeling worse.. You are always careful with your flock..and you tried your best to get him back.. It's sad that it happened.. Hoping that he lands somewhere safe and someone rescues him or he joins a flock of bird.. A few years ago, Milky from my mom's flock was stolen by someone, when the cage was in our garden for a while for morning sunlight. We felt so miserable and hoped that she went in good hands.. Mom never left the bird cage out after that.. Certain incidents like these breaks our heart..

I'm so so sorry to hear this Hezz. It sounds like you have done everything you possibly could have done to get him back. An accidental escape is something I think we all dread and I can only imagine how hard that is to deal with. I will keep my fingers crossed that he shows up soon.

As already said, you’ve done everything you possibly could to find and try to entice Misty back Hezz. I’m so sorry that this has happened. I can imagine it’s torture not knowing where he is. I really hope he decides he’s had enough of the big outside and is able to navigate his way home or you get a call from someone who has found him and seen your lost ad. Thinking of you.

This is awful. I am so sorry, Hezz. I had a bird escape many, many years ago. I can still recall that shock. Hopefully Misty has found safety with someone somewhere.

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry Hezz. Please don’t give up hope though, I’ve heard tales of birds being found up to 6 weeks after they were lost. Hopefully someone has taken him in & somehow, soon, you will be reunited.

Oh Hezz, I am so SO sorry to hear about Misty! Marshie flying away back in 2017 was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life ... I really feel for you. Really really hoping he comes back to you. X

Oh no, I am so sorry Hezz! Budgies are very smart and have been known to join wild flocks of small birds to find food. So he could still be out there! I actually lost Moxie a few weeks back, and I was able to get her back the next evening, but other people have lost their birds for much longer and still found them! (Didn’t want to bother anyone with that drama so I didn’t mention it, but maybe my experience can help?) I stayed out all day with Moxie’s mate Soul and my two single boys to keep him company, because I hoped they would stay within contact calling range. I put their cage on top of another open cage so she would hopefully see them and come down, and go into the lower cage for food, because I was afraid if I approached her she would just fly off again. She’s one of my most skittish budgies. One thing I noticed is that Moxie didn’t want to come back to our property under the cover of our trees. She stayed in the highest trees skirting wide open areas. So if you have any areas with big open fields nearby, and especially with tall trees along the border, I would check there. Also, Moxie didn’t come down until just before sundown. During the day she didn’t seem interested at all in coming back and was actually following the wild birds to find food! But in the evening when she wanted to roost someplace safe she finally came down to my neighbors open yard for the millet I was holding. The flock of sparrows she had been following all day were chasing her away at roosting time. Moxie also knows my contact whistle, even though she doesn’t respond to it, but I kept using it every time she called to Soul, just in case. So don’t give up yet Hezz! Even if you only have evenings to go look for Misty, there still might be a chance… I know how awful it is to not know where they are or if they are ok… My thoughts are with you both.
