Occasionally, when out of their aviaries, all five of my current flock - four budgies and a kakariki - will get the zoomies at once and the aerial chaos that ensues makes a murmuration of starlings look like the miracle of organisation that it really is.
Should I worry? I've not witnessed any collision more substantial than a fleeting brush of wings but ... has anyone had the misfortune of dealing with a more serious crash? I hope not.
Telling me that I worry too much is an acceptable response.

I feel like I vaguely recall two of my budgies having a bit of a collision but it might have been a near miss. Nothing bad resulted though. Birds seem to be pretty much wired to avoid flying into each other. Can't remember which species it was but they found that the birds always veered right when on a collision course, so they didn't collide, which they then took to using for aircraft too. The birds collide with me more than each other, when I suddenly stumble into their flight path without realising.

My chocobo has a tendancy to fly past my head or shoulder and brush me with her wing. It is way too common an event for it to be accidental. She's a very talented flier, very acrobatic so it must be deliberate. I choose to interpret as a sign of affection 😁

Occasionally Peter will fly into me if I am in his flight path, but none of them have hit eachother

My two do the mad dash together but have never collided. I've had a couple near misses with me so as a result when I hear them dash off, I stop to see where they are going. I've also had my Buddy brush me with his wings as he's flying. I've thought he was going to land on me but changed his mind at the last minute.

I've had loads of moments when someone has veered off at the last moment when caution overcame conviction. Chocobo is particularly prone to last-second second thoughts 😂 Can't think why, I make an excellent perch.

It makes sense for there to be some innate aeronautical rule to abide to. After all, survival does depend on not colliding. And generally speaking, it is the young “new fliers” who are prone to knocking themselves into air space furniture ie trees etc while still practicing to get their open licence.

As has been said by the others, flying into each other I've not seen anything other than a near miss. Landing on top of one another however. That's virtually a daily occurrence in our house. My lot have no manners.

Just witnessed my first full-on air collision, Eeyore and Chocobo. Chest-to-chest, stopped in mid-air contact! Very light though, I think they had both put the brakes on in time. They didn't lose any altitude and each pealed off in a different direction. High drama here!

Glad they were both okay! I have not seen any of mine almost collide, but they have flown into me at times! I can see that is what I said above too

I was utterly astonished and my mouth dropped but before I could begin to fret they were off and doing their own things again. I watched them for a few minutes afterwards, there were no issues. The buds rarely fly into me. Maybe once a week? Chocobo twats me with a wing most days but that's cos she loves me 😂

Tweetie Pie is getting more adventurous in his flying. If I'm standing up, he'll do touch and goes on my head. Any interaction that Tweetie Pie does with me is an excuse to celebrate!
