I’ve not read properly for ages.
I’ve got a new Kindle, so any fiction recommendations please of new-ish stuff, say last 5 years?
there’s so much out there, don’t know where to start

Sorry I can't help with newish stuff. I don't know I've every read anything less than 5 years old.
The book I'm reading at the moment is 2007 but I wouldn't especially recommend it. It's not a bad read but it's quite daft. The main character enters an alternative reality where reworked fairy tales are real. Some of the changes are interesting like it was the dwarves who tried to murder snow white because she is so horrible. It's the Book of Lost Things by John Connolly. Before that I read Elizabeth Gaskell's Gothic Tales.
What sort of thing to you like?

Remember there are book categories on the forum ffiscool, have a look there for good stuff to read. Edit:- Just had a look, it's under the "General" heading.

Ah yes, thank you
I’m not sure anymore tbh. I used to love romantic and anything by Maeve Binchy, Penny Vincenzi

I've downloaded "The Keeper Of Happy Endings" by Barbara Davis.
Not read it yet, but it gets good reviews.

I loved The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margo by Marianne Cronin which I read recently. Sad but also funny if you know what I mean.

Do you like mysteries? I read "The Thursday Murder Club" by Richard Osman. It was released in 2020 and is a series. The third in the series was just released. Its about a group of retirees living in a retirement village in the UK who solve mysteries. I've read the second in the series also and found them both to be very enjoyable.

Just to chip in on the thriller front, one of the best ones I've read recently was The Memory Wood by Sam LLoyd. I really enjoyed it.

jellybean Whereas I'm currently in a book reading flow and can't get into anything else. But I just finished the third book in a series that I'm really into and don't want to start anything else yet, so I'm waiting for the next book to arrive.

Is anyone on Goodreads? You get plenty of good suggestions and can read reviews. The latest books by favourite authors come up too. Reading is my main form of relaxation. I actually get stressed if I don’t get my usual daily read in the bath or read in bed. I love history fiction and time-slip novels but have read many good contemporary books. Not really much of a ‘chick lit’ reader but I have a few good ones. I won’t tell you how many books I have!! Let’s just say there’s 2 bookcases in the lounge, 2 in my bedroom, one in each other bedroom. My friend is a vociferous reader, I don’t know how she does it, and usually has a number of books on the go at the same time. We do the Goodreads book challenge each year. This year my target is a low 25 because I have some huge books to read. Hers is over 100 and she’s already read 23 this year!! She sent me a parcel of books last month and one was The Thursday Murder Club, so I’ll be reading that at some point this year too.

Your friend doesn't have budgie then, ariella 😂 I like reading, but, I'd find that a waste of a day if I did nothing else but read 🥺🥱

I mostly read at bedtime and sometimes before I get up if I wake up early. Like you jellybean I like to do other things during the day. Although if I'm reading something really gripping then I might read it during the day. ariella We also have many bookcases, and because I'm a huge nerd I have catalogued our books in a database, although there are a lot of books that haven't been catalogued yet. I will never have time to read them all. Many of them are academic books that I use for teaching but the majority are fiction. Last year I read all of the Jeeves and Wooster novels and really enjoyed them. I also read Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events for the first time which was also fun.
