ffiscool Max regularly, randomly runs across my table and jumps on my arm. I caught a nice photo of him and myself. I could tell that Chipper wanted to come over too but is a bit scared. So I tried to get a photo, but he flew away. You can just see a ball of fluff in the air NOTE: there is nothing wrong with Max's leg, my arm was slanted and so he was leaning to try and compensate

Max's colouring is gorgeous. I've not seen anyone quite like him.

Yes, he's actually prettier in real life than the photos show. The other day the sun caught his eyes and they are not black, they are red or plum. I thought he was a recessive pied but I think there is more going on than that. Maybe a recessive pied Fallow or something. Ira, any idea?

Yes, they are all a bit spiky at the moment, especially Bertie and Chipper. I've encouraged him to stand on my hand. When Eve is in bed in the evening he'll fly over to me and play on my table. Lovely photos. He’s very pinny poor boy Chip I’m sure will start joining too as he can see Max is ok touching you, lol Glad Max has kept up the contact 😊

I honestly don't know, Marianne Marlow. I think fallows are the only red-eyed mutation other than inos but they seem pretty rare so no idea if I've ever seen one. Also never seen an ino budgie in the feather so not sure how pink/plum their eyes are. I'll see if Yuki will oblige me a look at his eyes to see how black a regular budgie eye is. (Also, not to take away from Max, I've said it before and I'll say it again, Peter is stunning.) Edit: Can conclude, regular budgie eyes look not the least bit plummy, at least in my lighting. So, yeah, definitely something interesting going on but I don't know genetics all that well.

That's so wonderful Marianne Marlow! When I first got Buddy, he'd step up on my finger. Then he grew up, got more independent and made friends with Tweetie Pie so he doesn't step up any more. He will fly onto my arm when I call him most of the time. He'll then run down my arm and play with my thumbnail. I think my arm is a larger landing pad than my finger. Before he flies to me, he looks over at Tweetie Pie. If Tweetie Pie is catching 40 winks or seems uninterested, he'll come. If Tweetie Pie starts chirping, Buddy will leave me for him. That's OK - after all I brought Buddy home to be a pal to Tweetie Pie but I do love that he'll play with me too.

Thanks, yes, Peter is very pretty. I think Cinnamon's have plum eyes, but Max's markings aren't cinnamon, they look a sort of light grey. I honestly don't know, Marianne Marlow. Marianne Marlow Yuki is apparently cinnamon, his eyes are definitely black.

If I can stick my oar in here … because of course I know nothing, but a tiny bit of research will tell you:
Cinnamon budgies have plum eyes as chicks; they are black on maturity.
Other chicks that hatch with plum eyes, and are dark at maturity are recessive pieds, DF spangles and dark eyed clears.
Some plum eyes are easier to discern than others.
The inos, lacewing and fallows hatch with red, not plum, eyes and stay red in maturity.
