I just want to tell you why i like our budgie and would like to know what makes ur budgie speciel or loved.
It can be everything
I like our budgie cuz she kisses me on my nose and preens my hair around my eyes.
She is funny to watch when she climbs or crawls around in the dreamcatcher and chew the strings and feather down. Sometimes she performs some stunts like trapetz people from a circus XD
Also she has many wierd sounds that we dont know where she learned em from. But i teached her to say one sound and it is now our own bird language and has many meanings
When i whistle in front her of her, then she puts her one foot on my lips and want to look inside my mounth to see where or how that sound comes from.
She is also a picky eater like me
Thats allround why im happy for her <3
So what do ur budgie do ?

This is a nice idea for a thread and I've been pondering it. Each of my budgies is a very different character. I love all four of them, unreservedly. I will snapshot them in the order they came to me. Mr Hibs is definitely "my" budgie. He seeks me out, is very tame and vocal with me and shows much trust towards me. We too have our own language, with sounds I make copied from him and sounds he makes copied from me. We have lengthy conversations with him perched on my finger and poised right next to my nose. He likes to think he is the Boss but each of the other budgies has his number and can send him packing when they put their minds to it. Hibs is slightly lame in his right foot after a serious injury/illness - I never established how it happened. He fought back from the brink and leads a very full life now, with barely a sign of an issue (I can see it as I know what to look for). He is my dear friend. Eeyore is from exhibition budgie stock. He's a special boy and his character is unique. He is a nervous lad, fearful of humans but the joy I feel when he temporarily perches on my head or arm is second-to-none. He will often follow Mr Hibs' lead so like yesterday, when Hibs has sat on my hand wolfing down millet, Eeyore joined in by perching on my other hand and diving in. Eeyore is the enforcer - I used to called him "Mr Hib's Muscle". He is the only budgie (other than dear departed Patch) who has no fear of Chocobo, my kakariki. If Eeyore says a thing must be, he makes it so and no one argues. Like Mr Hibs, he is an enthusiastic singer and incorporates the individual sounds of the other budgies in his songs. Squeak turned out to be girl, to the astonishment of no one on the forum except me. I had a lovely bond with her during her training, she would run up to see me and even lean into my hand with her whole body. Alas, once a member of the flock, she has limited contact with me but I have seen a few promising signs that she may be thawing towards me. As a hen, she says what goes and Eeyore will defer to her judgement 99 times out of 100. She is acrobatic, loves clowning around in the plants I put out for the flock, is a talented hanger-upside-down. She's also Mr Hibs' significant other. She has no song to speak of, only the loud *squeak!* that gave her her name. I remember our close bond and hope one day to recapture some of that. Herman is my newest recruit. Small when compared to the others physically but he is larger than life. Fantastic singer, as a flier he is second only to Chocobo in his skill. His reception by the flock was initially cool and he worked very hard to make friends which is wild enthusiasm probably hindered somewhat! Herman is another acrobat and also loves to play in the plants. Chocobo has a special dislike for the little lad and usually chases him away but Herman is undeterred, often pulling Chocobo's tail when her back is turned. Brave lad as she is twice his size, quicker on her feet and a better flier - just. I've never seen a budgie with a bigger personality than Herman. Chocobo is a chocobo (kakariki) not a budgie. She is my lovely big yellow bird. Her habits are very different from those of a budgie and I don't think I was quite prepared for her. She came to me after I had Mr Hibs and Eeyore but before Patch, Squeak and Herman. She is tremendously friendly but she has to be the one to seek contact. She is curious, interested in what I'm doing all the time but hideously destructive! I've had to hide away anything vulnerable to her powerful beak and claws. I don't see much of her at the moment as she is sitting on a clutch of (non-fertile) eggs. I hope she comes back soon, I miss her companionship. A quick word about little Patch whom I lost last month. He was always a quiet boy and was something of a plaything for Eeyore but he rarely seemed to mind. He snoozed and rested a lot but when he was active he often led the flock on their outings and activities. He introduced sweetcorn to everyone and he was the leader in the project to destroy my lounge carpet (I don't mind, the carpet is going after I decorate). Patch was a gentle soul and I loved watching him forage and chew on salad cress and all the quiet activities he loved. I miss my boy so much.
Although this thread mentions budgies, I included my Chocobo (kakariki) as she is a member of the flock. Upon suggestion and reflection, two further, former flockmates must be included. Blondie Bear was effectively a rescue gerbil and came to me, with his brother Brown Jenkin, when I just had Mr Hibs. Being lonely, Hibs adopted the two gerbils and included them in his flock. BB was an industrious fellow, doing the work of two gerbils as his brother was of a more relaxed temperament. BB could be seen arranging their shared apartment, running on the gerbil-wheel, chewing everything he could get a-hold of. He was a gentle, friendly chap who was the subject of Mr Hibs' very first infatuation - Hibs was obsessed with the lad. Sadly Blondie Bear at the age of nearly three died of some sort of prolonged seizure in my hand last year. I was very sad indeed and it's hard not to call up the images; I try to remember better times with him and it helps. Brown Jenkin was left alone and I was determined that he not feel lonely so I did all I could to take the place of his brother. I made every effort to play with BJ each day and in this way developed a very strong bond with the boy. Mr Hibs was never quite as enamoured of BJ as he was of BB, but when Chocobo came along, there were fireworks - at least as far as Chocobo was concerned. She was infatuated! Brown Jenkin was happiest running around on me, hiding in my fleece and nibbling (rascal!) my earlobes. I was devastated when BJ suffered a stroke in March 2022 and thought I'd lose him then but he bounced back and led a full and happy (if a little wobbly) life until late April the same year when a second stroke made his passing inevitable. Such a gentle boy and so friendly, I feel his loss very keenly. His body lays at rest next to Blondie Bear and Patch in the garden but my hope is that they are all running around together somewhere, shredding toilet roll cardboard and endlessly arranging their comfy wood-shaving beds.

You sure have many friends to look after We only got 1 so far but we are waiting for a baby male to grow up at a breeder. So when ur birds lay unfirtile eggs. Do you then remove em or let her give up on the eggs eventualy and then remove em ?

My reading has suggested leaving the eggs in place until mum has abandoned them. Initially Chocobo (the kakariki) was laying one a day and ignoring the egg but then she accumulated a couple of them (and then more) and stayed with them. Shes persevering, poor love. I'm assuming it's the same treatment for infertile budgie eggs but that hasn't come up as yet.

I'd like to write about the personalities of mine and include photos, but I have 11, so that would take a while.

I thought I was stretching a little bit when I included Chocobo as she's not a budgie! I wish I had included Blondie Bear and Brown Jenkin now. They were honorary budgies after all.

The three chums used to play together in the prison gym and Blondie Bear even visited the boys' geo cage one time, which was hilarious! 🤣 I had to send pics to my sister as she didn't believe budgies and gerbils would or could play together.

I mustn't either! I would have a lot of research to do first. And don't have the space anyway.
