Isn't that Perry?

Yes it is. I am so used to typing "Maddy & Gurgeh" that that's what gets typed no matter who I am referring to Odd that Perry didn't get chased off, either by Maddy herself, or Gurgeh.

Maddy certainly looks bouncy enough there, I see she is in breeding condition which could be having an effect on her.

Maddy certainly looks bouncy enough there, I see she is in breeding condition which could be having an effect on her. That's another possible explanation. I do think that if I put a nest box up, there would be an egg in it before I pulled my hand away.

At first, like others, I thought 'possible kidney issue'. But after watching the video, I'm thinking her body is getting ready to be a mother. Could Perry be a papa?

Unlikely to be Perry, this is the first time I've seen the two interact for longer than two seconds. More likely to be Gurgeh, he's been courting her since she got out of quarantine.
No budgie babies please 🤣

Awww, she’s way to young to be a mum bless her, i mean she physically could but they should be at least a year old, her little body needs all her calcium for herself atm.

She's only seven months, she's my little girl!

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend it at all. The difficulty is that persuading them it's not good breeding time is hard in captivity.

For kidney issues, it would be a case of being careful with her intake of things like calcium and protein.
But she'd be very young for kidney disease.
Hormones is the more likely answer. Which means you'd be looking primarily at calorie intake, but also things like the temperature.
But if she's not even trying to scope out a nest site then she's unlikely to randomly lay. Gwen was full on hunting all of last year and didn't lay until she was finally going in and out of a box.

Research and help here on the forum suggests kidney, pancreas or nestiness. Unfortunately for Maddy, the first step is a day or two in the Geo, on her own, so that I can track her droppings. The stress of this step might dissuade her from any ideas of nesting, I suppose. Not looking forward to the next day or so.

It's hard, i know too well, but your doing the right thing Loz to get a handle of what's what. A couple of days should give you a better idea and then you can make a call on a possible vet visit or not, as the case may be.

loz your close observations make your flock so lucky. You are quick to pick up any potential issue and react to it. Hope that Maddy’s situation becomes clear during her time in the Geo.

Thanks Ariella.
I always feel like I'm slow to pick up issues with the birbs, it's kind of you to say that. Hopefully there will be good news in the next couple of days.

I just watched Maddy chewing on a sugar snap, appearing to eat it so I now have visual proof that she does eat veggies. I was certain she does but had no mental picture of her doing so
