I just thought it might be useful to mention that when me and Rob got her from the pet shop, the assistant said that he wasn't sure exactly how old she was, but no more than about six weeks. Is it possible that she was weaned too early and that this could affect her ability to feed herself? I don't know anything on this topic personally but it's just a hunch and maybe someone with a bit more know how can help?

*UPDATE* We just added a BRAND NEW coop pot feeder thing, full of water and put it at the top of the cage and she has just drank for Britain! So we are both thinking of putting food in the same type of pot, also got her a honey stick and put it opposite side of the cage and she's killing that too (tastes quite nice) also got Trill in there and she ate some of that too...so hopefully next couple of days things will start getting better with her..Reason for honey stick is to help her put on weight quickly...as Daisy let me feel her chest and could feel her chest bone quite sharp....so honey stick and millet etc....both me and Sarah are quite upset we didn't realize this sooner...but it's getting resolved now! ALL THANKS TO YOU GUYS!!!!!!!

Hi Rob - Glad to hear Daisy is getting on alright. It is horrible when they aren't quite right - they can be very worrying!!! Mine are all doing funny poops too but that was due to anitbiotics and air sac mites so waiting for my Probiotic powder to arrive which should settle thier tummys. Like you I am on 24hr poop watch

That is great news, Rob! Sounds like she is now eating for Britian too. I am no expert either, Sarah, but you could well have a point there. Most breeders check that the chicks are husking and eating seed on their own before allowing them to go to a new home, keeping them to around eight weeks, meaning Daisy could very well have been on the very young end of that scale. It wouldn't hurt for DAisy to have some eggfood either - it is full of protein and given to birds to help them put on weight, young chicks as well. Depending on how you feed it to her, if you do, can be wet or dry. Wet needs to be removed after a few hours, but dry can be given as is or sprinkled over her seed. One of my birds prefered it wet, one dry and the other is a guts and eats it either way!

I think that most budgies nibble at their own poo Rob so that is pretty normal. Not sure why her poo is so watery. She's far too young to be at egg laying stage. Is she drinking a lot of water? they will eat hard droppings as it contains vitamins, i don't encourage it

This may be the case Sarah, i always have a dish of jap millet ready for the babies as it is soft and easy to crack...........the droppings will not change overnight .................a budgie prefers the cage with its back up against a wall , it then has no fear of predators attacking from behind , just a piece of info for your thoughts guys

That poop is much better. Poor Daisy must have been ravenous. Nice save.

noticed her poo is watery again today with the odd small green squiggly things.....so keep an eye on her....though she hasn't shut-up today lol, usually she's never this vocal i noticed she's not eating all the seed in the Trill...which is annoying...she's just eating the canary seed
