Munchy won't eat groats either. I think it's because he tries to dehusk them but there's nothing to remove so he just drops them. Probably quite a common thing among budgies because they're used to removing husks, which is probably one reason why it can be difficult to get them onto a diet of pellets if they're used to seeds.

Will she eat oats, Rob? They are supposed to be higher fat content. In fact I pull them out of my seed as I have a pudgy Smudgy (slightly). Pity I can't send you some!

I have been reading this with interest as I have a budgie that is too thin also. She is really stubborn due to the fact that she lived on her own for the first two years of her life. I got her in December last year and she has her own cage but still gets time with the other budgies but other than one nibble at a piece of carrot she won't eat veggies. In fact she eats hardly any seed either. I am going to get some sunflower seeds, oats, and try her on egg. You'll have to keep us updated Rob

couldn't get my hands on SMALL black sunflower seeds, and she wont touch oats either :/ so i resorted to a couple of honey sticks again...she's currently demolishing it, and a ton of HUGE millet from pets at home....Daisy REALLY needs to gain weight....and just compared her size to Skye, and she's really small... i'm hoping she will be ok soon....as her poops still haven't improved.....

Hi Rob, what is the weight of your bird? Also what is wrong with her poops? I seem to have missed the begining of this thread.

Rob, just because she is smaller than Skye isn't a concern. She is still only very young, and she will grow a little and fill out a lot more. What I mean is that even if she wasn't underweight, doesn't mean she would be the same size as Skye. She could also just be smaller bred too.
