Hey guys, since Trixie has entered the cage (sooner than i anticipated) Daisy has been really aggresive towards her....just randomly nipping at her....and going for her if she goes near the seed pot...not sure why they're arguing over that as there's 2 seed pots and Trixie knows where both are...But this afternoon Daisy has been really really going for it with the whole little squeeking noise they make when fighting....Im just after some tips more than anything...Just want to try and some how nip this in the bud, or at least bring it down to a level where i dont need to worry about bloodshed... also the other cage is no good, so i cant seperate them so they're both stuck together for at least a month....and no im not worrying just after some pointers etc thanks guys

I guess they have still not concluded that who is the boss. Once they do that, they will calm down. I love the title of the thread though ;D

lol i only set that as the title because it's all Daisy yea i thought it might had been....i had been contemplating setting one perch really high to try and force them to decide....seem's a bit harsh to do that though

Ah yes hens can be right little witches lol. The only way you can deal with it is to make sure they have lots of space so they can get away from each other plus lots of out of cage time to tire them out. Also make sure you have two food dishes to try and limit the arguments. What size is the cage that they are in? I don't remember seeing a photo of it but might have missed it. Hens can be very grumpy and territorial so its all a case of giving them chance to settle in. How long did you have them in separate cages before letting them live together? I have a girl, Lola, who was a bit of a bully when she was younger so I ended up separating her again and introducing them slowly again. Its all about them working out who is boss but obviously you don't want unhappy birds or for blood to be shed.

this is the cage i use for them www.amazon.co.uk/Liberta-Siam-Medium-Bird-Cage/dp/B002Y1JQ12 though the image doesnt really do it good...as it's quite largeish they were only apart for a little more than a week until the other cage gave in....yea there's two food and 2 water dishes, the food and water for Trixie are on the door, and Daisy's one's are opposite ends of the rear perch, as thats the only place she'll eat, though she just found the water thingy i connected to the cage....i would remove the other water pot from the otherside of the cage (not door) and turn that into a food pot, but im not sure where Trixie is drinking from....i have noticed Trixie will wait until Daisy finishes her food before going for her's, but Daisy is not that patient and then a fight starts there too....compared to Daisy, Trixie is very mild, she'll let Daisy sit next to her and that...must say today has been the worst....and yea they go out and fly together, and Daisy will follow Trix...usually mostly fine like that, MOSTLY they still slightly squabble but nothing major....i do feel sorry for trixie though, she's trying her hardest, poor thing cant even play with the toys without daisy telling her off but she did get to play with the giant squid in the back of the cage earlier lol!

I had to convert the cage sizes to inches because thats how I usually think of cage sizes lol. Its 18" x 14" x 20" which is a bit on the small side for two budgies. I would say its okay because they get lots of out of cage time but with their squabbling a larger cage would be better. Obviously I can't tell you to spend money on a new cage because its your choice but a bigger cage would, in my opinion, help to reduce the squabbling. The minimum size for two budgies should be 18" x 18" x 30" although bigger is obviously better. It all depends on how much space you have for the cage

I totally agree, Rachael. The cage is definitely on the small side for two birds. Pet shops will tell you otherwise, and most of the cages sold should never be! They are too small for one bird, let alone two.
Also as the cage they are in was Daisy's to start with, this is more reason for her to resent the intruder, so poor Trixie never stood a chance. A new cage, with some new toys, maybe even new perches will give neither bird the advantage, so they have no territorial feelings to anything there. When looking for a cage, the bigger the better is the thinking to use. Get as big a cage as you can afford both money and space.

Have a look in the cages and aviaries section. There are a number of threads there where people have asked about cages. We have different ones available to us here in Aussie, so check out those threads and see what you can find. If you post up the links or pictures of the ones you are interested in, we will do our best to help or shoot you down in flames, LoL!!! ;D

Ferplast make a lovely cage called the Piano 6. They say it is big enough for 4 to 6 budgies but I think it would be perfect for 2 if you can make room for it. It is well designed and easy to clean. Zooplus sell them online or you may get a slightly damaged one on ebay if you're looking for something cheaper. I love the cage, we have a few of them for all our birds!

Budgies tend to fly sideways from perch to perch and not up and down so much, so a wider cage rather than taller is best if that's possible.
