Aww glad Smudge doesn't have to have anymore jabs, glad that she is back home and hopefully back to her usual "madam" self! Give her a little finger tickle from me x

The really odd thing about all this is she seems to have lost some of her attitude regarding me invading her personal space. Usually if I put a finger through the bars of the cage she open-beaks me, but that hasn't been happening. If I put my hand through the doorway of the cage, that's different, but usually anything coming through the rest of the cage was given a sending off. And fair enough too, it is almost like "approach me straight on and legitimately, but don't try to sneak in from the side" Sparky came for a ride with us, just because. He needs to learn about rides in the car and sharing the little cage for a short time, and visits to the vet. He had lost a whole heap of feathers just about his cere, especially above his nostrils, which looked to start with like staining, but with the magnifying glass I could see it was his skin, and missing heaps of feathers. Today he is carrying a ton of pins in that area, so I have set him up with a bath - hopefully help the little guy out a bit. He seems more energetic, with the sunshine he has been getting.

Perhaps Smudge is finally accepting that you have her best interests at heart? What with all her handling lately sounds like she has got used to it so she is a bit calmer? Hope Sparky has a nice bath! They need all the help they can get when those pinnies start to come through

Not sure, Sam. She was great with the vet while getting her shot but then the ducky quack came out. The vet's response was "they are just so full of attitude, aren't they?" Sparky has become VERY vocal (as opposed to very) and seems to really get going after a dose of sunshine! He didn't have his normal huge splash about, but I did manage to plop Smudgey into the bath - at least she got a wet tum if nothing else. Here is a really interesting article I found from one of our resident budgie breeders, Don Burke: www.burkesbackyard.com.au/factsheets/Birds/Vitamin-D:-A-Sick-Budgie-Breakthrough/6123

Sitting in a patch of sun with a make-believe "tree" (actually a piece of ginger) over the little cage to provide some dappled shade! ;D And giving me a hard time getting them both into the little cage to come out into the sun. I was using the large cage, but there are too many shady bits with that. This way, some part of them is generally getting some sun. But it is that time of the year - Sparky is very frisky, Smudge is constantly telling him to rack off and I don't know who has the stronger will in this battle. Normally I would put my money on Smudge, but Sparky, .......... well ...... he doesn't know how to take no for an answer! ;D It is all fun and games and very, very noisy in my house at the moment, Moogie! I haven't made an effort to check out Smudge's gland - it doesn't seem to be as obvious as it was, or is that wishful thinking on my part? I will take a few months to know for sure, so fingers still crossed.

"Rack off, hairy legs". ;D That was a popular one from my youth. Bit before your time though, Moogs. ;D Thanks for the thoughts, though, all good vibes gratefully accepted.

Thanks, Marianne, Sam. *Smooch* No, Sam, she's still a brat!!! ;D Although spring IS in the air, and Sparky is frisking away - he's getting "chikked" at regularly. Poor boy must be so confused! She lets him whisper sweet nothings, she doesn't mind a free feed, but "don't you dare walk over my tail!!! Get out from behind me!!"

Stace - we had that when I was a child - yellow basilicon (not sure if that's spelt correctly) ointment. Was brilliant stuff. Perhaps we can search it on google or something??
