Thank you both ., She has passed some more worms since having the wormer this morning , and she`s eating like a horse which is probably due to having these horrible worms.

I must say I never expected to have this sick little bird so early in my keeping of budgies ,So I must say a big thank you for helping me out with such good advice, without your help I don`t think Beauty would still be here.. I know she`s not out of the woods yet, but at least she is still here and I can do all I can in nursing her to getting better. Fingers and toes crossed for her.
Forgot to say we have had the heating on since tuesday non stop , we have had to turn some of the radiators off as we are baking ;D The back bedroom she is in is like a sauna If anyone wants a warm just pop along to our house its like the sahara ;D

I don't know much about worms, but I'd be extra vigilant about cleaning out the cage even while she's on the wormer, just in case she ingests more eggs or whatever it is worms do.

I never would have expected that a budgie could harbour a worm that was visible to the naked eye!!!! Did the vet tell you what type of worm it was? I would be soooo interested to know. (I love parasites ) No wonder poor Beauty couldn't get herself back to full health with those eating everything she could provide! You won't know her when she is fully recovered, she will have so much energy! Keep up the good work and the updates too, please, Julie.

That is a good point Hezz, it must be quite a big beastie in relation to such a small bird. I agree with Stace about making sure you remove every trace of poo from the cage- especially check the cage bars (where I sometimes find they can lurk if you don't look really hard...!) If you have a steamer I would give the cage a good going over with the steam- maybe a couple of times- that should kill everything.

Some of the worms were about an inch in size and easily visible as they are pink yuk!! I would never have expected a worm that size to be in a tiny bird no wonder she was so ill poor baby. She had passed another one when I went to clean her cage so thats 7 or 8 that have come from her. I cleaned her cage this morning and she did have a little fly which she hasnt been able to do . Her poo is getting more solid thank goodness.. Only thing is she doesnt like me anymore and shy`s away from me because she knows that everytime I have to hold her its to give her meds so she dnt like me now

That is going to happen, Julie, unfortunately, but luckily they are rather forgiving in the long run. I have had to do the same with my two newies, giving them their spot treatment for mites.
That is a huge worm for a little creature! I can't imagine how she has been able to live! Now she is on treatment, she just has to have a terrific life ahead of her!
