Yes. The lampshade. Just in a mini size. oh my goodness-little lampshade smudge never knew they made them that small either They don't! We will have to make one up for her. This morning's hot/cold compresses when much better - I hold her against my chest, part her feathers and gently squeeze, then cool, then warm again. (I end up with one damp boob, but who cares???) No gunk, and no protests; she spent the time nibbling the edges of my singlet. I just have to put her in the cage for half an hour to an hour after, until she dries out, as she can't repel the water, and therefore can't fly.

I cant imagine a bud wearing an Elizabethan Collar , poor little soul. I handle them every day, Skysmum, and the payoff is times like this when they need to be handled. They don't wriggle half as much. Even if it is just a catch them up for a few seconds, give them a kiss and let them go. I am a softy, I know. The op is going to worry me. I wish we could wait until April when the specialist will be visiting, but that is too far away. You are right, Skysmum, she is otherwise healthy and still young ............ I worry though that this may only be the beginning - it may be a tumour and it may keep recurring.

Poor Smudge. Hope the compresses work. She is much too cute to be sick. Hugs to you both. Thanks BF. I don't know whether they are working or not, but will continue and see what happens. She isn't actually sick; just lumpy!

I worry though that this may only be the beginning - it may be a tumour and it may keep recurring. I used to be able to handle mine quite easily but i think 6 years in the aviary put paid to that. I had to catch up poor Ted today because he has been worrying his back end with his feet for a couple of days and he looked quite pink round that area. Had the fright of my life when i went to place him back on his perch, he seemed to go a little floppy and wouldn't catch on to the perch , i thought he had had a heart attack but thankfully he perked up and grabbed on when i started talking to him and i watched him for the rest of the day he seems fine now. I couldn't see anything odd round his bottom but he is moulting and loosing a lot of his under feathers, i also noticed he's a bit over weight . I do hope smudge will be ok, you've got an anxious time ahead. When do they want to take her in.

I don't really know when they want her, but sooner rather than later, I think, so it doesn't get too big. It is fairly slow growing, so not a big panic, and I will continue with the compresses twice a day for the rest of the week. Will talk to her vet later in the week, and maybe make it for the week following. We have been haemorrhaging money like you wouldn't believe the last month as well - everything has come in at once - bills, bills, bills, car regos, school fees, electricity, rates, BIG car service, and then to top it all off the fridge packed it in last weekend! So I am very conscience of the costing of Smudge's op, on top of the health issue.

Misty has gone feral again. haha blush away my dear.. . why does misty go feral ?..regards mick... . Misty goes feral from hanging with Sparky! Sparky is a little pocket rocket, barely able to stand still for two seconds, so when the mad flying starts, Misty joins in. Sparky picks his times when he will allow me to talk to him, I am privileged! But Misty gets so used to flying off that every time I approach, s/he takes off. Once I remove her from Sparky's presence, either on her own or with Smudge, she quietens down. She is still young - a work in progress, I call her.
