We went back to the vets today but a different vets surgery. The vet said it was probably a uteral prolapse that started the infection and inflamation which is causing her to not be able to poop properly. Its not looking good for her :-( She now has metacam as an antiflammatory as well as more AB. I have to swab inside her vent with a cotton bud to help drag the poop out. It is really not good, but shes eating and fighting hard. The meds are now by a syringe. She might not have been drinking enough water which had the AB in. Its possible that as shes been blocked up she didn't want to take more water/food in so not got the AB she needed.

Poor Filamel... and a difficult time for you - technically as well. I really hope she responds to getting the meds more directly. Thinking of you both.

Thanks guys :-) Shes pretty much the same today, but certainly the Metacam has helped the swelling go down a bit so she is managing to pass droppings a bit and eats well. The other good thing about having the meds by syringe is I can now feed her softfood so shes been getting sweetcorn and damp eggfood with some dandylions :-) I am hoping this might be easier for her to digest than just seeds. The colour of her droppings is now ok so it seems like theres no infection in the bowel such as e-coli, streptococ etc, but possibly the tissue that has broken during the prolapse will be infected. Tomorrow she can have grated carrot and spinach with a nice hard boiled egg from one of my hens :-)

Aw thanks guys :-) Its good to your support on here. Non budgie people just don't understand why we get so stressed about these little birds. Their attitude is 'don't waste money on vets bills' 'just get another one'

Yeah that annoys me so much. Our budgies mean at least as much to us as their pets do to them. Grrr!!!

Budgies are disposable pets to so many people :-(

It's really annoying this attitude to budgies, given they have as much and probably more intelligence than many dogs and cats when given the opportunity to flourish.

Yep, too right they have Stace! Thats why I've given up breeding now as finding homes that I feel that will be a home for life and a good home even is nigh impossible. I've given budgies to people form the old forum who are genuine at the time, but a little bit of upheaval in their personal lives and the budgies are the first to suffer. Some budgies I've given to really prominent people on the old forum I've found out have all died through neglect or been given away or sold on :-( I have always given budgies away with the promise that if anything happens I would have them back.I have even driven 150 miles round trip after a girls bud got sick to try and get it back after she couldn't afford to take it to a vet, but there was nothing wrong with the bud. apart from she had used a tiny wooden travel box as an quarantine cage for days on end! The hen had no daylight and was petrified being on somebodys bedroom floor in a 3 walled box And that was somebody that came across as knowing about budgies on a forum. Unfortunately some people can't even be bothered to make that phonecall for me to pick them up if theres a prob :-( Therefore I will only breed now if I have space to keep all chicks.
