They are very beautiful but the beak looks scary I think these are the one who mate for life.

Their beaks aren't sharp, just long. They aren't scary like ravens or crows. Quite placid birds really.

They are fab! Reminds me of the hadida (not sure if that is their real name but is what we called them) we had in South Africa. They are also a type of Ibis I think and used to make such a racket but we all loved them.

I believe they are from central Australia but they have turned up in coastal areas only in the last 30 years or so.They're almost in plague proportions on rubbish tips so we can send as many down to Sydney as you would like.

Wow... what an amazing sight! Are they noisy? I ask because the largest birds we get on our roofs here are herring gulls. Not only do they squawk loudly during the day they also make a din padding up and down on the flat roof of our bedroom very early in the morning! Want to swap?

They're not noisy but their call is a deep-throated "urk". If you want something really noisy on your roof, try a peacock.

They aren't so noisy but boy, do they do big poos!!!! Don't park your car under a tree they regularly roost in - you may find yourself missing some paint in a few weeks' time. They are bits of pains actually - they like hanging around rubbish bins ...... school yards ........

When I was in Oz I was amazed by how outrageously noisy sulphur crested cockatoos were - huge gangs of them. But we were totally fascinated by the birds generally - incredible to see very colourful birds like rainbow lorikeets flying around like sparrows or starlings here. The one below was taken through our window. Oh, and Australian ravens! - I still do an imitation when I see ravens and rooks here. It's all coming back to me...

The cockatoos were out in force this morning outside my place, tearing up the neighbourhood! They're such hooligans.
