What does bright green watery poop mean? Gracie in the aviary was looking poorly, she was puffed up and tail bobbing so I set up a hospital cage for her and put guardian angel in her water.
I've just done my last check for the day and now that she's on her own i can see that her poop is bright green and nearly all water :/ I can take a photo in the morning if needed x

Green poop can indicate more than one thing I think. Liver disease, bacterial infection or megabacteria would be causes. As shes fluffed up I would suspect bacterial infection first of all due to the increased wateryness of her droppings. From my experience you get warning signs for liver or kidney disease in the droppings long before the bird gets noticably sick. I would take her to a vet asap Rachael. The vet can do a quick poop sample from a fresh poop to eliminate megabacteria and will be able to feel round her liver area to see if its inflamed.

Well I've just been in to the aviary this morning to check on her and her poops have changed overnight to a more solid brown/ black. She has also eaten a good third of her millet spray, has been eating her seed and I know she has been drinking because she got it on her belly lol. When I was researching last night I came across a website that said green watery poop can mean they haven't been eating? Gracie is quite a timid hen and I am worried that she might have been bullied by the younger budgies and not had enough to eat. I am going to check on her every hour today and if her poop isn't back to normal by 4pm I will make her an appointment for first thing tomorrow morning. Thank you for you advice

I've made her an appointment at my usual vets but the soonest one I could get is 3.40pm tomorrow :/ Also my usual vet has retired! So I have had to book in with the second choice.

Thank you everyone x I really don't know if she is going to make it, I just hope that she has a fighting spirit in her. The worst part for her is going to be me giving her the antibiotics because she has barely been handled by me and came from an aviary where I don't think she was handled either so the stress could be too much :/

Well the vet trip is over and done with thank goodness. Gracie was not at all happy about being handled! I am a bit baffled though. He said that her poops indicate that she is drinking too much water and that she is a little underweight but not enough to be a worry. He said it doesn't seem to be an infection but said that he could give her a multivitamin injection and an antibiotics injection to help her. The antibiotic he gave her is called Covenia 80mg. So errrr I don't quite know what to do now other than keep her in her own cage for now. He also said the excess water could be a sign of kidney problems or just that she is under the weather and that it isn't diarrhea. Oh and he said that he could do blood tests but its hard to get enough blood from a budgie. I'm not willing to put her through that stress if its not necessary.

I have followed your thread with great interest and I am glad that there is nothing seriously wrong. It must be stressful to you as well as Grace. I know what giving blood is like, over and above normal tests, and truly understand why you wouldn't want to put your pet through it. I hope all turns out well from now on.

Oh dear, Rachael. That didn't really answer any questions, did it? Is Guardian Angel allowed? Hopefully it will be "just one of those things" and Gracie will be back with the others in a very short time. Fingers crossed, anyway.
