Sorry but, I cannot decide what gender Joey is nor what age. Your help with either question will be appreciated. Some more pics. Hopefully clearer than the first ones. I have tried to get a clear image from both sides, but everytime I move so does Joey. This is the first time I have been able to get this close with or without the camera phone. I have this very morning been reading the earlier threads about the subject(s), Looked at the websites suggested and I am still no nearer deciding the sex. One image I did see suggested that he was in fact a he but not in breeding condition. You probably understand what that means, me With regards to age, I do understand from the knowledgeable information in these pages, and internet, that he is not a baby, but what sort of age might he be? Thank you all for taking the time to look.

From that picture, I would say an older male. A young cock bird will have a really quite bright blue cere.
See what the others say.

Clear closeups of eyes and cere required. Stace sounds right though.

Hi. I don't have enough experience to say what age Joey might be (I'm sure someone will be along soon who does), but I can say he's obviously lucky to have found you to be his budgie Dad And beautiful pics by the way.

Definitely male, but his age is difficult to pin point but he looks like a lovely old fella.

Looking at my images and the images on that web-page He would appear to be 6-8 months. The circling around his eyes is the eye lid, not the iris as in the images. I guess he's not a chick but not ready for a Zimmer frame (walking aid) yet either. He does have some rings on his leg, but without capturing him I can't see what they are and I don't want to put us both through the ordeal.

I'm wondering if Joey is a bit low on Vitamin A? Because of the slightly rough cere and possible bit of staining on the feathers above. What do you others think? BudgiesBuddy, nat, Hezz? If you can get him eating a few veggies, that would be great. He may be fixed on his seed though if he hasn't had other things introduced when very young. They can be persuaded to eat other things if you just keep on and on trying, though it can take a while. Dark leafy greens and orange-colored foods are good like carrot and red peppers. (Not lettuce, it's mainly water and makes their poops sloppy) You can even try a little bit of steamed/cooked and mashed pumpkin or sweet potatoes. If he won't eat shredded carrots, maybe try some fresh carrot juice.
