Thank you all for your kind messages, still cant believe it. We have buried our little beautiful Oggie next to our beloved Tink and will do a little memorial stone for him too. Have just booked a vets appointment for Mojo, which is tomorrow and been asked to bring some poop sample too. Mojo seems ok, her poop looks normal, she is out playing and appears quite happy and chirpy, she was a bit quiet this morning but left the radio on for her while I went to work and she was very happy to see us when we got home. As said, moonkira *Julie * *julie* has kindly offered one of her chicks as we dont live very far from eachother, will see how things go as im bewtween jobs atm and will need to buy another cage, going full time so Mojo will definatley need some company. Xx

moonkira *Julie *, that is one of the nicest things anyone could do. After us all laughingly supporting your wish to keep all your babies, along comes a situation and you are willing to give one up to what we know is a very good home. tinksmum, this will also give you time to get used to the idea of another, and grieve properly for dear Oggie. But if it doesn't feel right, don't rush it. Julie's chick won't be without a home if you are not sure, and I am sure she will understand if you can't. Take care xxx

Update after vet appointment, worm eggs present in Mojo's poop, being treated with ivermectin, other than that full bill of health after a thorough examination and weighing in at 40g. Feeling much more relaxed knowing Mojo is going to be ok. Vet thinks she could be a he. Chances are it could well have been worms attacking the nervous system to cause Oggies fatal seizures

So pleased that little Mojo is going to be fine, apart from the worms. It must be a relief to you. I think the breeder should be told about the worms, is it the same breeder that Julie had a bud with worms from or am i getting post's mixed up

Thanks skysmum, its a massive weight off my mind. Yes same breeder, although im not very happy with the situation I still try to see the best in people, but its impossible they got it here, these things can manifest in the nest box via transmission from the parents the vet told me, despite breeder stating his birds were clear he has assured me he will treat his flock, which i really hope he does, He has beautiful birds there. This could be just one of those things that hadnt presented itself so he hadnt noticed, maybe because Oggie was so young he was more vulnerable.

Well i hope he does Tinksmum , its not on selling buds like this and causing so much stress and upset for people and buds. For the sake of a bit of worming he is putting all the birds at risk and selling poorly babies. If it was just one person experiencing it then you could put it down to chance but for it to repeat itself it has to be problem in his aviary. Sorry, ive had my soap box session, i will now.

Glad that you have had mojo checked and caught it before it was fatal with him , Its without doubt thats what killed poor Oggie I feel gutted for you and awful for putting you onto the breeder. He knew about the worms when I told him about Beauty last year but whether he did anything about it remains to be seen . I thought it was worms when you described Oggie`s symptoms. Andrew in Lakeside is a good vet and its only through him that I didnt lose Beauty

Thank goodness re Mojo. If it hasn't been for poor Oggie, you presumably wouldn't have known worms were present?
How does anyone know especially as Mojo seemed ok?
I hope the breeder does act.

moonkira *Julie * *julie* please dont feel bad its not your fault, im sure you thought everything was fine, especially after informing him of Beauty, trusting that the birds would be treated, as said on pm it could have been nest boxes, both you & I were none the wiser. ffiscool when Mojo was examined the vet said her poops looked healthy, as I had previously thought, thank goodness the vet was thorough and checked under microscope, Mojo has worm eggs present so its caught before any damage can be done. Even though both Mojo & Oggie came from the same breeder they were not siblings, so I suspect one or both of Oggies parents to be infected or the nest boxes are not cleaned regular while chicks still in there. Im no expert but have learnt alot in the last few months since my beautiful Tink passed away to a tumour, but now I know to keep an eye on the poops better, and what is healthy and what is not, another reason for regular disinfecting ooops me selling F10 again .... well not literally but you know what I mean skysmum completely agree hun. Vet advised to worm any new birds as a precaution in future, whether that be if your birdless & getting a budgie or adding to birdie family, I do feel at fault a little for not knowing this but at the end of the day baby budgies should under no circumstances have worms, breeders are meant to have more expertise than mere pet owners, especially when you trust a breeder more than a pet store. Sorry for the essay...if you got this far n not fallen asleep!!! ××

So happy to know that besides the worming, which is easily done, Mojo has been given a clean bill of health. Why wouldn't a breeder take the trouble to treat his birds when, really, it is such a simple thing to do? ? And this is a timely reminder for myself as it is almost 12 months since Misty joined my house, so time coming around for a preventative treatment for all feathered friends. Note to self.

I think I will work Bailey. Can I buy he stuff anywhere? You can buy Ivermectin 0.1% (this is he one for budgies as the other strengths available are for other animals). It is made by Pharmaq and you can get it from them or maybe on ebay. When you treat your budgie be careful not to get it on your skin as it is absorbed through skin and can make humans feel unwell. Not a personal experience I hasten to add, just some info I remember from somewhere.

tinksmum, Helen, I was looking for this for another reason, but when I read this I thought of you. It may be worth getting Mojo rechecked after her second treatment to be sure all eggs are dead. She may still be passing eggs, but the vet should be able to tell under the microscope if the eggs are dead, if there are any in her poop. This is from the Vetafarm website, www.vetafarm.com.au/pages/Products-for-birds.html I realise it more than likely isn't the brand you are using, being an Aussie company, but just thought "forewarned is forearmed" etc. I'm not trying to be a scaremonger, but feel we want Mojo fully treated, not half. Probably the safest chemicals are Praziquantel, Ivermectin and Oxfendazole. Overdose is possible with any medication but with these the safety factor is usually over 10 times the therapeutic dose (that means you must give 10 times more than recommended before adverse effects occur ). Ivermectin has some advantages but is not particularly good on roundworms (by far the most common worm in birds).
