I guess it's a "quality of life" call. If the bird is eating and is happy ?

I remember reading something about FDs from that Australian woman, RIP Budgies. I think there was a feeling the FD were more likely to issue from the larger birds, so they keep cropping up as people select the larger birds to breed from.
They often die from starvation in the nest, as they aren't fed enough by mum to keep up with their feather growing energy needs.
If they survive that, they'll literally sit in a seed pot, eating all day just to meet their energy requirements.
She did a post mortem on one of them. I think its heart was the problem. Can't quite remember, but maybe the metabolism is running so high it puts pressure on their heart.

Yes there is some info from RIP Budgies on this topic but I was not able to read it. She is the most knowledgeable person about budgie genetics I have ever known. She has bred some rare mutations of budgies. Nev also acknowledges her knowledge.
Recently she has gone from being largely unemployed to working from early morning to late evening and then some daily tasks in her bird room. Hence we hardly see her on now.

Its such a shame that FD dont live that long. They are really pretty. Why dont they live very long?

I think it's cos their feathers grow so fast and they can't ingest enough protein to keep up.
