Shes been really active since the trip to the vet.Lots of wing flapping which is usually accompanied by angry bud noises, and climbing the bars of the cage. It doesn't seem to have stressed her out so Im happy about that.

Hi carol, how are her eyes looking? Do they look 'gunky' at all?
And can you put a white piece of paper under where she's resting most at the moment for her poop?
We've just had similar breathing problems with Maggie, our bud. One thing we noticed was sometimes her poo looked fine, then others a green tinge to what should be the white part of the poo. She also started to sneeze a bit and also the tail bobbing like belle is doing.
Did vet say anything about her weight? For us Maggie was underweight due to the illness.

When I saw the video I immediately thought of one of my birds, also a pied, who had similar breathing and body posture caused by a tumor near his vent. I'm glad your bird has been checked by the vet and this has been ruled out. Does the vet think it is an infection?
All the best to you two!

Her eyes look fine so do the poops, in fact there was one in the box when the vet got her out and she said it looked ok. She didn't weigh Belle but said she had good covering over the breastbone and didn't feel thin at all. Hows Maggie now?

She didn't weigh Belle but said she had good covering over the breastbone and didn't feel thin at all. Hows Maggie now? That's good! Maggie getting better now after correct meds and changing food, providing some uv light, and keeping more of an eye on their food intake in general. She was wheezing similarly to Belle but perhaps not as deeply. Keep with what you're doing and definitely visit the avian vet if you feel no improvement. I wish I had gone there the first visit instead of wasting a visit to the other vet, and a week in time before getting to avian vet. We're on the road to recovery now Hope she she heals quickly too.

She certainly did not sound too good in the vid, Carol. Did the vet say anything about airsac mites? These can be known to cause respiratory problems in birds. And easily treated with a drop of 0.1% ivermectin dropped onto the skin of their throats. Hope Belle is on the mend though, with her AB's. This is a good site for all sorts of problems, but here is the page for respiratory problems: www.birdchannel.com/Diagnostics/Details.aspx?Body=Respiratory&Symptom_Id=166&Condition_Id=108

Thanks Hezz. Do you think it might be worth getting some ivermectin anyway? The vet didn't say anything about airsac mites but shes not an avian vet.Belle did look pretty rough in that vid that's why I didn't want to leave it any longer I rang the vets there and then. She only makes the noise now and then but I know they are very good at hiding illness.

Good thing you spotted this. When I first got Charlie (my first bird since childhood) he had a breathing problem I was totally unaware anything was wrong. He was tail bobbing as she seems to be doing in the video. I had no idea that was bad and happened to provide Charlie with lemon grass which he devoured like crazy. After the tail bobbing stopped. Then I started researching this behavior, reading forums on birds and realized tail bobbing was bad. I also found out certain birds treat themselves with herbs. I wondered if this is what he had done with the lemon grass. He has been healthy ever since. It's been over a year. Since then I have many more birds and I try to provide lemon grass as often as possible.
I'm glad you spotted this and got her to the vet.

I only knew something was wrong thanks to months of reading posts on this forum before I got Belle. Im glad Charlie recovered, it was interesting about the lemon grass.

Ivermectin is a good thing to have on hand. Easy to apply ..... just reading my own post again, the drop isn't into their mouth but onto the skin! That wasn't terribly clear from what I had written. Make sure it is 0.1% only and not any higher as there are other concentrations of the stuff for larger farm animals. Anyway, how is Maggie going?

Hi . I don't want to talk too soon but yesterday and today the breathing doesn't seem as noisy and the tail isn't bobbing as much, so hopefully shes on the mend. I was worried that she wouldn't get much baytril down with it just being in the drinking water but it must be enough. Shes doing so well settling in,Im amazed really. Shes climbing all over me and flying short distances to my hand and this morning did a circuit of the living room, there are quite a few crash landings but shes doing great.Im going to order a landing perch for the top of the cage which may help.

Well, we really got our bird confused there, did we not, lol!! Anyway how is young BELLE doing ..... still improving? Be aware that the baytril may make her feel better in the short term, but often is treating symptoms not the cause. Also after a dose of AB's, a probiotic can be of help to the bird's gut flora balance.
