He must be tough as nails. I remember seeing a vet on tv operate a finch and saying that one Q-tip with blood on it is about the limit of how much blood a bird like that can lose. It's kind of scary.

Wow, this was way more than that, it prob looked worse because he had flapped it everywhere. Apparently a budgie has 60 drops of blood volume in his body and can afford to lose between 10 and 30% and still live which is 6 to 20 drops. A strong healthy bud can loose 50% and survive. With this in mind i would say it was around the 40% mark. God the stuff i read .

Sometimes reading doesn't help, cos you then imagine more. I always read up on tjings too much. Thankfully he is ok!

Noah had a problem when he broke a few blood feathers on one wing. I didn't know how much he could lose and survive. The Q tips vets use in surgery are bigger than those we buy. They are on a little wooden stick. The vet measured the blood loss by knowing what volume one absorbs. I don't know how many drops that would be. I'm so glad your bird made it through. I guess you are going to want to spoil him now. That's what I did. I was so afraid he would get sick and it's been quite some time he even became a daddy. Wish you the best.
