Have you tried him on back to basic stuff when he was a chick,Hezz, like whole meal bread in a blender then add a tiny drop of milk just to make a crumble..........

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. Brian, the eggfood is the same as his breeder feed him as a chick - he actually gave us a small amount when we brought Bluey home. Of course that is long gone and this is a new bag but he has always been pretty good eating it and it is one thing he has been having a nibble on. I'll see what he has to say about the bread,....... thanks. Yeah, Stace, Bovril was the same type of thing - I just remember my mum saying when they didn't have Bonox, Gran used to make them up a hot drink using vegemite instead. Especially when the kids were under the weather. I decided to try the vegemite drink for a couple of reasons, not just the fact he likes it, but he was trying desperately to dive up my nose (yeah, I know, yuck, but if you have kids, you'll know that it is the salty taste they are after), and then after running the dog around a bit I was dripping sweat when I went back to check on Blue - he was trying to drink the sweat off my face. Again salty. Electrolyte drinks (sports drinks) too have that salty taste and vegemite was always regarded as a good source of vitamins and minerals.......... again salty taste....... so that was my logic in trying the vegemite. He is better this morning - the best he has been in the morning since we had the damn thing drained. Not so fluffed, his feet are warm again, and nibbled on his millet and eggfood each. Hopefully he is no longer feeling so drained. Terrible pun, it wasn't intended.

I think it has helped some, Mick but he is still fluffed in the mornings, although this morning he had a goodly amount of eggfood with a bit of egg yolk in it and also seed I saw him at his seed pot twice. So back to square one. I don't think his tumour is any smaller now than it was a week ago, when we went in to get it drained. PS I asked him about the bread, Brian, he said no thanks. I don't have a blender so just offered little bits - he had a nibble or two but that was it.

Hi Marianne, the weekend showed quite an improvement - but I think it is a double-edged sword. The sac seems to me to be back to the size it originally was, before I took him in for it to be drained. But he is gobbling eggfood every morning and not so fluffed now. He is still a bit fluffed at times, but mostly he is okay and once he has had a feed, he comes around again. I won't put him through that again, it just wasn't worth it - I was very afraid we were going to lose him this time last week. But that was my only hope for prolonging his time with us. From now on I don't know what is going to happen.

Such a rollercoaster ride. And it makes it very stressful. Yes he's better. No he's not. Yes he's better. Oh no he's not. Takes it out of you.

Cheers, guys. He is a fluffed little bird some of the time, but not all. Eating some of the time, but not all, poops are horrible but have been for quite some time. I am keeping him apart from the other two during the day mostly, as I feel Sparky is just a little tooo full-on for him to deal with. Plus Sparky and Smudge are on a grass seeds and veges period, without their seed pots, so I leave one in with Blue and the others are removed. He has also got millet all the time now, and eggfood every day, which he is having a really good go at. And he tires very quickly. Really sweet to see, when Sparky settles down with Blue and isn't hoppery, skippery all over the place, they often sit together leaning into each other, with one or the other giving a little scratch. But mostly just sitting still like they both went to sleep mid-scratch. I would love to get a pic of it, but they only do it in the cage, and the camera focuses on the bars, not the birds.

Hi, Marianne. I have been avoiding coming back here. It has been a very up and down week. Monday and Tuesday, I thought we wouldn't have him by the end of the week. Wednesday and Thursday a bit better and today better still. He still has a lot of love to give, and I have him with me when ever I can. I talked to the vet yesterday to make sure there wasn't something I was missing or something I wasn't doing to help him along, and the message I got basically was that he has done well to last so long. He has been pretty much isolated from the other two, mostly because Sparky doesn't give him a moment's peace, and eating only eggfood and millet with the occasional forage through the seed pot. Sparky feeds him still, but hassles him twice as much so I limit their time together. I have had to resort to the hot water bottle and lamp for those first two days, and since have been leaving the lamp on for him anyway, all under cover so it is nice an warm for him, as he is constantly fluffed now. Feeling very, very low, knowing we don't him for too long now....... He is so affectionate, like when he was the only bird, I think he knows to make the most of the time he has
