Is that true, BB? Can that knock them around too? We were hoping the feed would help him feel better and thus get him eating again. It isn't really working. He has eaten a little this morning, still fluffed up, but again spent time on the floor looking for bits of dirt. I gave the house a clean yesterday so there were slim pickings for the little guy. I am going to cook him/me an egg in a bit and grind up the shell, see if that helps him with grit, and he has been quite adament about some vegemite too. It is a salty taste - wonder if that is trying to tell me something. I am probably over-analysing everything, but what else can I do??? Yes, Marianne, Sparky is my little green man. I feel he thinks Blue was put on this earth just for him!

Hezz, Boo either slept or just sat sadly in a daze for about five hours after his crop feeding sessions yesterday. After the initial shock of the force feeding though, I would hope Blue would be starting to perk up again.
Can you give him something for some extra energy? Weak black tea with some sugar or honey it it? Call your vet and ask if some kind of glucose/polysaccharide is okay for Blue right now.
I have a Rob Marshall product called Quick Gel. You put one drop in 100mls of water and it's a sustained energy source, useful if you can't crop feed. It seems to be a kind of substitute for this Guardian Angel stuff which we can't get here.
I'm putting this in Boo's water, along with his two meds, to help him gain his strength.

He has got the tea, Stace, but I don't think he is drinking it. I dipped my fingers in it after seeing him come down for a drink and then not having one, and he drank some off my fingertips. Budgie Gatorade is what we need. But this is 5 days now, 2 since the crop feed. He is eating a little, just not as much as I would be happy with, at least a little bit of eggfood. I am going to ring them (vet's) this pm as I know the vet we usually see is on again then.

I feel he thinks Blue was put on this earth just for him! Although there are some complications with it but nothing wrong can happen to a budgie when he is crop fed by an experienced person. But nonetheless, it is not what any bird would like. Imagine having a tube down our throat. The crop feeding saves lives of many budgies, either it is food or medicine. I am sure it will do good to Bluey as well.

I am sure you are right, BB. They are such resilient little critters, I didn't think about the affects crop feeding may have on them physically. "Powders, particularly animal supplements, etc generally do not pass the rigorous Australian Customs and Import restrictions" Not quoted word for word, but the message was the same. The American companies I approached said they had had no luck with their Australian clients being able to import it. So, yeah, Stace, I have done everything I can think of except going the illegal route. The afternoons are definitely better than the mornings - I even resorted to letting Sparky out with Blue for a while as he just can't help but give Blue a feed. Any little bit helps, I feel.

Today's update: All the vets could advise for additives for Blue was a little honey/sugar in his water. Not a big option, as he already had weak tea with sugar and not interested, so, remembering the old ad from probably before my childhood "tea, coffee, Bonox?" I decided to try a little vegemite in his water (it is rather like Bonox - don't know if anyone drinks it these days, but it was a staple during the Depression when things like tea and coffee were hard to get hold of and very expensive ). After I fed him a little from my finger tips he had quite a drink, a nibble of millet, and a little eggfood with a little egg yolk added to it. ........... A bit more during the day and he was looking a little more like his normal self. Somehow I doubt we are going to see the old Bluey back, but it was wonderful to see him a little less fluffed and a bit more lively. Even eating normal seed. I was watching very carefully to see he was actually eating, not fudging........he even showed some interest in the carrot and brocolli I added just in case. Unfortunately, it looks as though the tumour sac (for want of a better description) has refilled quite quickly, probably what has caused the drain on his poor little body, so I don't really know now whether that is an option in the future - I don't know whether he would survive that all again if he is any more compromised. In the meantime, he gets spoilt.

Hey, just try to take it easy Hezz. It's really stressful all this worry. You're doing everything you can for Blue. I'm glad he still likes his vegemite.
Rather than Bonox, I remember something called Bovril. Like a syrupy vegemite made into a hot beef tea.

Poor little Bird, he has been through the mill. At least he has eaten a bit, but I know how worrying it is. All of us wish Bluey the very best, and you too of course Hezz. If Sparky will feed him then it might boost him a bit too. let's hope so anyway x

Sorry to hear Bluey is having so much strife with his tumour:( I would certainly let Sparky continue to top his food up for him if he feels so inclined:) I think my Cyril kept annorexic Poppet going for the 2 years she was with me. After Poppet passed away he took on skinny bad eye Rose. He does seek out the most needy and literally takes them under his wing Without Cyril those hens would'nt have lasted a month I'm sure. Thinking of you x
