Hey Hezz. All the best. Hope you return with good news.
I have my third vet trip tomorrow. It's not a good feeling. Let's hope Blue has the will and strength to pull through everything.

Picked him up this afternoon. The vet this morning said this sometimes happens with draining tumours depending on what the fluid consists of. the more protein, electrolytes etc the fluid contains, then the more gets drained from the bird's body as the fluid is beginning to be replaced. Probably explains why it took a couple of days for him to really be affected, and also why he was worse in the mornings when he had been fasting all night. Unfortunately once he felt crook, he didn't want to eat, so they had him for about 3-4 hours and gave him a crop feed. He still looked awful when I went to pick him up but had been eating, and has done so since I brought him home. He is isolation with a hot water bottle, but this was interesting - as soon as I got him home, I opened the cage to replace his water, he insisted on coming out, straight onto the floor and started foraging on the dirtiest mat in the house. Had a forage on the wooden floor, not enough, back to the really dirty door mat. He obviously felt he needed some grit. I would love an explanation for that.

Maybe because of not eating for a while he needed the grit to help with breaking down the seed?
Just a guess.

That sounds promising. After the crop feed, they do look awful. There's quite a bit of vomiting that goes on, as well as the stress of it all.

Fingers crossed Bluey recovers quickly. That draining must have taken so much out of him.... Poor little darling.

Fingers crossed Bluey recovers quickly. That draining must have taken so much out of him.... Poor little darling. Yes, it seems to have, Sweetpea. The vet some just fly through it, but it depends on what the constitution of the fluid is. Bluey's obviously is quite rich. My son pointed out yesterday that he needed the equivalent of a budgie Gatorade. A good analogy, I thought. He is more lively this morning - hoping this is the bounce back we need, and has been feeding, although not heaps. At least he is eating so fingers crossed we are out of the woods for the immediate future. Phew!

Aw. Poor baby. Pity your Blue and my Boo can't be in their sick beds together. At least they'd have someone to moan to about the cruel and unusual punishment their awful, awful owners are putting them through.

Budgie hospital wards........there is a thought ......... the only time they are quiet....... time to be worried. A few stray cheeps this evening and a number to "tuk, tuk's" to my finger. He too has been a bit sooky. So he is still in his little cage, away from the over-energetic Sparky, who is going crazy trying to reach him.

Sparky seems to have the right name. He's the green one isn't he. Like my Jerry.

I am really sorry Hezz that Blue is not feeling well. I hope he starts feeling better soon. Crop feeding is not something birds like. Come'on Blue-Bird, time to bounce back.
