Lovely photos, Stace. These are the first birds I hear every morning. The only ones who get up at the silly hours I do.

Have they nested nearby maybe? Probably, OP. They turn up only every so often, and stay for just a few weeks. Beautiful birds, related to our Kingfisher over here Stace. Yes, but I believe they are quite a bit bigger. It's their crazy loud call that's most distinctive. Lovely photos, Stace. These are the first birds I hear every morning. The only ones who get up at the silly hours I do. They've been waking me up at sparrow's every morning for the last week. Much nicer than a buzzing alarm.

They haven't been back yet, but I'm sure they will be. They turn up every so often. We've had a lot of road, pavement, water and storm water work going on in our street for the last few months and I think it's keeping some of the birds away.

Oh yes much bigger and of course the king fisher is more brightly coloured to camouflage it against the rivers and lakes it feeds on. I've seen Kookaburras at a bird sanctuary. They were part of the demonstration on bird behaviour. It showed how they hang on to their prey, snakes, until it stops moving, amazing bird.

Great photos. Australia is just one large aviary isn't it. Love all of your birds.
