She is very slowly, very gradually losing weight. That's worrying.

I have given her some millet last night and this morning, plus a small palm-full of oats while I was picking them out of the bulk bag. She did enjoy that. And didn't share them either.

I think I have found the explanation for her gradual weight loss ........ Mango! Mango has been chasing her away from the main cage area, but not all the time. I had noticed for a couple of nights running that Smudge was still at the seed pot when it was time for lights out. So Monday I gave her a sprig of local millet; she gobbled it down, so gave her another one and that disappeared just as quickly. This was after her meds and vegemite bribe. Yesterday I put a small pot of seed (with a few oats ...... shhh don't tell the others) in the kitchen where Smudge spends a lot of her time, on the perching tree table. When I did our nightly weigh-in she had for the first time in about 10 days, gone slightly up not slightly down. I do hope it is that simple! Anyway, vet visit - we can drop the Metacam down to every second night, but only after another five days - her preening gland had absessed again and so she had that opened up again and drained, so needs the anti-inflammatories until it heals , but no signs of any fungal infection as can happen on long-term AB's, and will mix up the AB's when this lot runs out, so she isn't on the same thing and allowing the bugs to build resistance to the Baytril. All in all, I think everyone was relatively happy with the outcome ..... particularly Spyro; he got a car ride, a scratch and an outing without anything bad happening. Fingers crossed we stay this way for a while.

She is a cranky thing, now. Bite me as soon as look at me, but come time to be stabbed, sliced, squeezed or medicated there is not a bite to be felt. I held the pointy end while Karen opened her (abscess) up ...... nothing; every night medicating time, nothing. She really is being good.

Thought I had better update Smudge's journey. This week has been a rocky one. Last Saturday I noticed she was starting to struggle with her poops again, so Sunday and Monday she had a morning and evening dose of meds, Tues and Wed she was doing slightly better, but then yesterday, Thurs, not good again, so I have made the decision to put her back onto twice daily doses until ............. whenever. I knew things were not so good for her - she stopped being a cranky cow and biting me whenever I came near, and started being nice again, and started worrying her vent again. Give me the cranky cow any day. She is still happily chirping away in between times, flying about and enjoying life; it only seems to be the pooping that is giving her grief at this stage, but that won't last - what goes in has to come out; to be blunt, if you can't s*#t, you die. She is sitting up on one of the banks of louvres chortling away to herself right now.
