You've certainly got a lot on your plate at the minute birdguhl, I hope things work out for you. Lots of love to Luee, I hope you get some positive news from the vet tomorrow, and it's not long before he's home.

I'm so sorry to hear you are having all this hassle at the moment birdguhl Focus one one at a time. Luee getting better and the vet dealt with, then the pesky mouse. In regards to catching the free rangers, a successful method is turn the light out, they will freeze, and catch them up that way. It works well with me so worth a try. Just make sure you can actually see yourself or you might all end up falling about in the dark! Good luck with everything. Are you still staying in the Edinburgh vicinity with your house move?

My PhD is in biology. What's yours?
I'm not surprised they were put off their cage after that. You describe it so vividly. I hope you can get the mice sorted out quickly this time. We had mice a couple of years back. They were coming through from the neighbour's house. We did everything we could in our house (making sure there was nothing for them to eat - they resorted to nesting the soap) and we caught quite a few in humane traps but they kept going next door for food. The little girl next door told me that all they did if they saw a mouse was throw a shoe at it. One of my gerbils bumped into a mouse when she was out to play one night but wasn't too bothered by it. And we had little dusty mouse foot prints all over the curtains. We weren't mouse free until the neighbours moved out and their house was empty for a couple of months.

All the very best for Luee and poor Berry too, of course. I hope the big lemon sherbert is back with you sooner rather than later.

Just had a call from one of the other vets. The news is not great, I'm sad to say.
He has now been diagnosed with a severe respiratory infection, which is also affecting one eye with a conjunctivitis-type problem. He hasn't responded yet to two types of antibiotic (one oral and one injected) and is still struggling to breathe even with oxygen. If he hasn't responded within another 24 hours that will be very bad news. They will see how he fairs without oxygen later today.
They are crop feeding him as he is not trying to eat by himself but he is still losing weight.
When I mentioned about Berry joining him (and Berry's condition) he said he would like to take a drop of blood from Luee to check to see whether he is also immuno-suppressed. If he is, I think he was saying it probably won't be worthwhile continuing treatment. He also didn't think Berry should join him as although this is normally recommended to have bonded animals housed together, Berry would be extra-vulnerable to infection.
He indicated that even if he does pull through this time, it is likely he would relapse.
So, overall not looking good for my beautiful big guy...
Berry has actually been reasonably cheerful but he is a nervous little bud and must be finding it strange being in their big cage and not having his beloved with him. I have always thought that when one goes, the other wouldn't be long to follow. But maybe I am underestimating his spirit. Thing is, I can't really introduce yet another bird into the equation. OK, could be getting ahead of myself here.
Thanks so much for all your good wishes. It really does help.

Thank you, budgie friends... Just thought I would share one of my favourite recent pictures of Luee - he has always been the best at trying out new foods:

All I can do is wish you and Luee all the luck in the world. Let's not forget about Berry, who must be missing his buddy.

Thank you all from us all. Berry has been singing away and I can't help wondering if he is trying to get a response from Luee.
I have just had en email from someone I was supposed to meet at 11 this morning. I completely forgot about it. Oh dear...
