Thank you so much, everyone. It is very comforting to know that you all understand. Some of you were around from the day I rehomed Luee and it also means a lot to know that you shared the whole journey with me. I am very sad but also very grateful that the other boys and I had Luee in our lives for almost two and half years. He both brought and (I believe) experienced a lot of joy in that time. I am also grateful that as recently as Saturday he was canoodling with Berry as usual. His illness was short, and he was only separated from the others for 48 hours. But it will take a while for us all to realize he has gone. Berry has been doing okay - chirping, eating and interacting with the others. He looks so very tiny by himself in the big cage though. Last night I left Charlie and Woody sitting side by side (which they rarely do) on a perch on the outside of the big cage. They are normally in their sleeping cage above the big cage at night. It was as if they knew Berry needed them close. In due course I will put together a little tribute to my big handsome Luee Lovely Lemon Sweetie Pie. Meanwhile, here is a photo of him with his friends taken in February this year.

I am so sorry and very sad, Budguhi. The most difficult decisions are made with the greatest love. You gave Luee what he deserved most, your complete love and good care. How nice that Woody and Charlie are looking after Berry. Hugs to all of you. Heaven will be a brighter place with Luee the Lovely Lemon Sweet Pie. Those of us left behind will miss him so much.

birdguhl i am so very sorry . I remember the day you brought beautiful Luee home to join your family and what a wonderful two and a half years he had with you all, it could have all worked out so differently for the little chap. Its such a hard decision but the ultimate kindness when there is nothing more to be done. RIP beautiful Luee and a hug for you x.

RIP sweet Lueee I'm so sorry for you, it really is such a brave decision to let our birds go when they're suffering, and Luee will be forever greatful I'm sure. Sounds like he had a wonderful time with you and your other buds, what a lovely photo to cherish. Thinking of you birdguhl xxx

I am so sorry Birdguhl. So terribly sorry to be reading this. I know how much you loved him, and he will have known it as well. It is not an easy thing to do, but the right one. Take care of yourself and little Berry, he may miss his big friend even with the others close. Hugs from me and mine, also. xxx

Thank you all. I am so touched by your loving messages. It strikes me now more than ever before that yet another gift our budgies are giving us - in their lives and when they end - is that they connect us - from all over the world - to each other. I have now brought Luee home. That felt very significant. I wanted to bring him home. Before I went out I set up the big cage the way I do when I am away overnight - with a cover draped over two floor standing lamps and stretched over part of the top of the cage. This creates a little 'tent' that Woody and Charlie like to sit in (as evidenced by droppings when I get home). Today when I got in, they were sitting under there, and Berry was beside them. That felt right. When I was up at the vet school waiting for Luee and the cage etc, I was chatting to the receptionist and remarking that there are no budgies in the slideshow they have in the waiting room giving information about the service. She said that they don't get many budgies brought in. I suggested that if they wanted to include a picture of a budgie, this would be a nice memorial for Luee. She said to email them a picture. I think I'll send them this one:

That's a lovely photo, birdguhl. It really shows a connection between Luee & Berry. I'm glad Luee is back home. That was important to me too when I lost my buds - I didn't want to part with them in any shape or form.

The budgies do indeed connect us. That is a lovely picture to put in their slideshow. Look at the smile on Berry's face

@birdghul I am so sorry to be reading this and so sad that your big yellow fluffball has gone The fact it was a sudden, short illness makes it a bit of a shock, but for Luee I am certain he had a wonderful 2 and a half years with you and your boys. This is so sad I had a soft spot for Luee and enjoyed looking at his photos and reading your posts about him as he looked just like my Custard. Maybe they will find each other in the fields of millet, two big yella fellas. That would be a lovely memorial to have Luee in the hospital slideshow. I am so sorry. Sleep tight Luee, beautiful boy x
