I am so sorry for you and for poor sweet little Bertie. You have tried everything to help him recover; no one could have done any more. Give him a kiss from me as well, and the biggest hugs to you and the rest. xxx I hope hubby was able to go with you .....

Hubby came with me. Couldn't stop the tears - wish I could have held them in. We went to our local vet that we take the dogs to, they are nearer and lovely. I didn't see the point in an hours drive to the avian vet, just more distress for Bertie.
The vet said they inject into the stomach and it sometimes takes a bit longer with birds, but Bertie was so brave and he went almost immediately. He said he could see how ill Bertie was and was reassuring, he said Bertie could have had that bug cryptosporidium and his stomach lining may have grown so he couldn't hold as much food then vomit etc. He certainly has hung in there - 3 months for a sick bird is a hell of a long time, it's a long time for a human.
He looked very peaceful and we've buried him next to Bobby and Gloria, other budgies who have passed earlier this year and last year.
Before we took him to the vet we took his cage outside and stood next to the aviary - Bob his friend came out, and so did Captain America, Percy. Mabel and Ron Burgundy. They all came over to the side of the aviary he was at and tweeted and Bertie found some energy to climb up his cage and tweet back. I wanted them to have a chance to say goodbye.
Hopefully he is flying with his new tail feather in the clouds and is free as a bird should be, with no pain or illness.
Sweet Dreams my dearest Bertie xx

I can't remember what he said, apparently lost of different ways not just from water which would be most likely suspect x

Rest in Peace, sweet handsome Bertie. You are with Bobby and Gloria now, but your friends here on earth will miss you terribly. You are a very special little fellow. Keep Bertie's cute face and happy song close to your heart, and he will be with you forever.

It is such a hard but courageous thing to do You had given Bertie the very best shot at a good life, and trying to get him back to good health again. I am sad for you all, but I am sure Bertie is relieved that there is no more illness, no more pain to be suffered. How sweet that the others got to say their goodbyes as well.
Rest in Peace, sweet Bertie. Your time with us was way too short. xxx
