I've just got my derrière on the computer chair. I got back about 15 mins ago. The vet thinks it is some vascular thing. He did say some medical terms, but I can't remember what it was. Anyway he didn't want to start messing about with it seeing as it wasn't causing discomfort. He thought it might be worse if he did do anything. He said it wasn't a feather cyst and to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't begin to grow. She did not bite him once, further more she stepped on his finger and sat there whilst he looked at her. He even lifted her wing a little and she did not make a muff. They are expensive these people aren't they. £25 it cost me. Still I know Edward is alright.

I think she may have cost some punters a couple of quid though. Not biting. Actually I transferred her on my finger between cages when I got home and she didn't bite me either.

I am reading this all a bit late to say good luck, but at least you now know it isn't anything too much to worry about - I hope, anyway.

Thank you Hezz, it all happened a bit quick. You were probably asleep from start to finish. I only noticed it in the morning and had the appointment that same day. It's not a great worry, but I will have to be aware of the thing and keep any eye on it. From what I gathered it is a blood vessel that is week and swells up when she exerts herself as in flying. I asked if I should restrict her flying and he said no, just carry on. If I see her have a go at the thing then that's the time for further action. Thank you everybody.

So glad that it wasn't/isn't too serious OP. £25 isn't too bad in the scheme of things, ours charges £30 per consultation too. At least you have no follow-up appointments to shell out for (hopefully anyway).

I would keep a very close eye on it, OP. If it is a weak blood vessel and she starts picking at it, it might go off in a big hurry. Budgies have very little blood and can't really afford to lose much. Also, I would make sure to be around whenever she is out for a fly, in case it does pop. It might be worth investing in a styptic pen and having it handy where she is out. That might seem all a bit doom and gloom, but better to be prepared and not be needed than needed and not be prepared. Sorry.

Thank you Hezz. I do keep cornflour in just for such emergencies. Is that sufficient? I mean if a blood vessel were to burst would anything stop the bleeding. It's not as if I could apply compression to allow cornflour or styptic pen to work its magic. I do have a bit of a problem with regards to her flying in that when the boys are out the cage door is left open for them. Usually when Edward comes out for a fly it is by accident rather than management. She tries to fly and land in the doorway of the cage. She invariably misses and lands on the living room carpet. It is a rare occasion for this to happen, most times she is quite content to stay in the cage. Although that is fraught with its own danger in that she quite often flaps her wings and flies off the perch, if she is lucky she contacts another perch on her way to the bottom of the cage. I have never seen the blood vessel protruding whilst she is in the cage. I am more aware of it now that I know it is there. I think I am as prepared as I can be. Oh! worry, worry.
