Shirley and John are inside whilst Shirley recovers from a cut wing. They have been mating and the other day she was scratching around in the paper at the bottom of the cage attempting to make a nest. I do have a nest box I bought years ago and although I don't want to breed if eggs are laid and aren't cracked etc I will help the buds to have their offsprings; I can't deny nature.
So long story short - I put the nest box with sawdust into the cage and Shirley went straight in and an egg has appeared. She's been in there all the time, popping out to eat and drink now and again. What I would like advice on (I have used the search but was having trouble finding the info i needed - apologies) is what I need to give Shirley to help her.
I give them seed and veg daily - carrots, broccoli, spinach, parsley, mint, basil, and sometimes porridge oats or sweetcorn as a treat. There is a fresh supply of water - do I need to still be adding ACV to it several days a week? There is a cuttlebone in there and a pink iodine block.
I am going to buy some egg food, I read that is good for them whilst breeding. I have next to no experience with breeding. Another pair had a baby budgie in the aviary earlier this year and it died the day after it was born. I can't have this happen again. I need to buy some baby budgie food formula in case for any reason it isn't being fed if the time comes, some egg food which i read is good for the mother, and some millet. Are there any other supplements I can buy for Shirley to help her? Guardian Angel - or is this only for poorly birds? Or something to put in her water to give her extra vitamins?
Thanks for any info.
