This is very exciting , i too cant wait to see how they develop colour wise, its like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get We watched a highland calf being born in September in the lake district, i cried, it was so beautiful and he was standing and trying to suckle in minutes, still steaming and wet from the birth, the miracle of life

No 1 is a week old today! Eggs 4 and 5 have not hatched, well as of this morning when I looked. I want to look all the time, but i am doing it once a day to check what's going on and that is ok. Shirley and John don't want me constantly looking even though I want to. If I am able to I will take a picture, all depends if Shirley is out the box and as long as she isn't stressed out. Baby no1's is very big now. I can see little, tiny pinnies of what must be the first baby feathers. I read they get them around 10 days old. In my head I think there will be a mix of the colours of Shirley and John. But who knows. I have tried to get my head around mutations and can't even decipher my mutations my own birds are, never mind what these babies will be. Will update in the morning

Baby no.4 has hatched. I presume it's under the bundle that is the lovely Shirley.

Oh thanks Marianne for enlarging. Whatever size option I choose for uploading they always come out the same small size I worry the two little ones under here won't be able to breath. They must be squashed .... I hope they are ok.

This is so exciting clt80! I can imagine you wanting to have a peek several times throughout the day, I know I would.

Do I now need to be getting them out and checking for splayed legs and food getting stuck that could cause an underbite? Or is it too soon to do this and I'm just being pedantic?
I have an overwhelming urge to check all is okay, and there is a niggle inside me saying let Shirley do what nature intended and don't interfere.
For all the reading up I've done about this, it's all still new to me and I'm second guessing myself all the time.
What do you all think?

I don't know really either, but I do feel leave alone until all eggs have hatched. But then again splayed legs need to be seen to asap .... is there plenty of nesting material in the box? Lack of purchase seems to be the main cause of splayed legs in budgie chicks.

I've more nesting material, I was going to start changing it when the babies started pooping. But yes, maybe I should put more in and Shirley can distribute it how she wants it. Thanks.
