I actually said oh you're Auntie Mabel to her today, although I don't think Henry wanted an Auntie Mabel: he wanted a Mrs Henry!! ay up, they grow up fast these days , he wanted to be her toyboy. I had that with a young lad and one of my 9 year old hens

"Henry's got a girl-friend", like the little primary school kids do, when I saw that first photo!! Definitely not an Auntie Mabel; Mrs Robinson, perhaps? Although, judging by the look on Mabel's face, I'm not sure she is going to play ball!!!

Mabel is and always has been a popular hen amongst the flock!! It's Quentin in the first picture Hezz. He was first to see what was going on. I feel he is the brains behind the babies, Henry is blue and the brawn, and I'm not sure I actually got a picture of him in his quest but I can tell you he gave it 100% bless him. I think once in the aviary Henry will be first to mingle and get a girlfriend. I can't wait for them to go out and meet the others.

Wonderful photos! What is that metal thing that either Cora or Ida was playing with on the top of the cage?

Henry is the blue boy, Quentin the green!! Sorry, boys.

It is the top of the home made swing Marianne Marlow. It's poking out the top but there are no sharp bits. I think it's Cora up there and Ida is on the swing. Ida is the one that if three of them are out she will be the one inside and vice versa. Does her own thing and good for her

I see, thanks for clarifying. I still can't tell the difference between Cora and Ida.

They do look like identical twins. I can only differentiate them by their personalities and sometimes when Ida's back toe pokes forward on a branch.

I'm so pleased to see Mabel looking happy and also managing so well with her temporary disability.

Well....the time has come. The sun is shining, the temperature is up and is staying that way for at least the next ten days according to BBC weather. So...looking at the babies this morning I felt it was time for them to meet the flock. Keeping them inside on such a lovely day just felt wrong. Out they went in their cage. Once opened Quentin flew straight out, followed by Henry. The girls took their time, slowly Ida went then Cora. Cora can't fly so well, she's lost most of her flight feathers, I think it was when they had a night terror a couple of nights back. There were some yellow feathers on the floor but I thought nothing of it as the floor has been strewn with feathers for weeks with them all moulting. I stood in the aviary for an hour watching them. I wasn't going to leave until I was sure they'd be ok and had eaten and drank. I did ponder if Cora should come back in, with Quentin as they are joined at the hip, but she's coping fine and can flutter about. The aviary is adapted for birds that can't fly. They could walk right around and go up and down if they wanted without ever using their wings. Henry was great, flew over to everyone introducing himself. He likes Ron Burgundy Marianne Marlow they had a chatter which I liked. Henry also likes the girls as I knew he would. There he was trying to feed Sam (a hen). So he has fitted straight in no problems. Ida went on every swing in there, one after the other. Bless her. She loved it. Quentin flew about, went over to Mabel, went over to Shirley and John which was interesting. John did a squark when I brought the babies in. I'm sure he was saying 'oh my god they've arrived help!!!!' Cora fluttered about and is a little unsure. Quentin isn't leaving her side and I think that's the reason I've not brought her back in. Shes wandered about on the branches and I'm keeping my eye on her. The food is all in the inside part, but for today I brought it outside so the babies can eat. They won't realise it's inside until tonight when they all go in to sleep and I didn't want them hungry. They won't venture inside until it gets dark. It was pleasing to see all the babies went to the food and took priority over the others, I always worry newbies will get pushed to the bottom of the pecking order. But they all stood their ground and ate first. I've some pictures I will upload. It feels this chapter has now come to a close, they are onto the next stage in their lives. But they will always be 'the babies' to me!! Thank you for all for the help you all given me at the beginning of this thread when an egg appeared, and throughout. Not only have i learned a lot but it's resulted in 4 healthy and beautiful baby budgies.

What a joy that was to read clt80. It's been a wonderful journey and a fitting end with the youngsters finally meeting the flock. Well done you.

Awww, I'm feeling a little sad right now. I am wanting to give them a kiss and cuddle, and I would be checking on them every five minutes .... just because. Be brave baby birds; stay safe (and no squabbling). Please, do keep us regularly updated on their progress.... I almost feel as they are part of me!

That's a wonderful account of the babies' first day out in the big wide world, clt80. What a long way we've all come from 'Shirley & John have an egg'!

Aw Henry, well done on making friends with Ron Burgundy I hope that Coras feathers grow back Ida will be bossing everyone about in no time! So Quentin went over to see Mabel and mummy and daddy, and is looking after Cora, clever boy.
